I am sorry to just now be discovering this sad event so many years later. We were colleagues in residency, and I was so impressed with Dan every day; a dear human being. I have great memories of going to Shoney´s together to attack the buffet! I can still vividly hear his voice. What a loss to his family and to medicine.

I worked with Dan Lucas for many years in Cath Lab and Radiology at Valley Memorial and ValleyCare Medical Center. Excellent physician and excellent human being.

My baseball teammate at Henry Ford and probably the most unique and intelligent person I knew in school. Dan was a true friend despite our differing skin color. When I first heard he had become a Physician, I was not surprised at all. I never knew Dan past high school, but I bet he was a great doctor. Rest in Peace, brother Lucas.

"Bro Chiller" we played football together in high school where you were a very effective running back with breakaway speed. Like most of us from that era you have been given your time to shine and took full advantage of the opportunity. God bless you, and may you forever rest in his every lasting peace. "Go Mighty Trojan!"

Dan, I will miss you keeping me company in Vegas in the sports book and talking sports throughout the year. Whether it was fantasy football, the Tigers, or anything we could bet on it was a pleasure strategizing with you. May God bless you Dan, you will be missed.

I'm going to miss you my friend and brother. We go way back to the early 70's, playing football, it was you who got me interested in football which has open so many doors for me. Rest well my friend, I will never forget you.

I am privileged and honored to have been one of Dan's partners. Whenever I walked into the reading room and saw that Dan was working, I knew it would be a good day. Dan never shirked work and would often stay late to get the work done without complaining or expecting extra compensation. Between reading cases, we always found time to talk sports. We were usually rooting for opposing teams (the Tigers for him; the A's for me), but the one time we were rooting for the same team (Michigan in last year's March Madness final), they let me down. We had a good laugh about that. That game cost me some good money. Rest in peace, Dan. You are loved by many and will be sorely missed.

Dr. Lucas took very good care of me in August 2013. He was very compassionate and kind. When I asked him quietly if he was the best, he looked right at me and said, "Well, yes I am." He calmed me that day and reassured my children. My condolences to his family.

Dan was one of the kindest, gentlest men I have ever known. I have worked with him for many years, and in all those years I never heard him raise his voice...except when he was watching a sporting event involving one of his beloved Detroit teams! I will greatly miss his gentle smile when he spoke of many things dear to him, his work, his wife and family, and his occasional "freaky friday" at work. So sad, so very, very sad...
