Karen Scoma Obituary

Karen Lynn Scoma
Resident of Danville
Karen passed away peacefully on September 22, 2013 at John Muir hospital.
She is survived by Chuck Scoma, her devoted husband and love of her life, and her four beautiful children Gianna, Angelina, and step-children Chad and Taylor (and we can't forget her beloved Wheaton Terrier, Bella!).
Born and raised in the Bay Area, Karen was a woman of many talents, and excelled in every endeavor she undertook. She was tenacious, articulate, and exhibited an attention to detail that was second to none. She received her BS at San Francisco State University, and upon graduation she started her professional career as a buyer for large department stores in the Bay Area.
It was during this time in her life that she met her soul mate, "Chuckie," where she became an instant hit in the Scoma family, and an incredible support in all aspects of their marriage. She often said how "lucky she was to have Chuck in her life"—he meant the world to her!
A beautiful Italian woman who loved personal fitness, and with an incredible sense of humor, she could have you laughing in no time. As her sisters Lorraine and Janet would always tell her—"You should have been a stand up comedian!". But she also did not let the serious issues of the day pass her by. With a passion for politics, she would not shy away from a debate or hesitate to make her views known in writing to local leaders.
While she was a talented business woman and an incredible cook (her annual Tortellini feast at Christmas time was legend), she was a deeply committed and loving mother and wife—it was her family that inspired her and provided the most joy in her life.
Karen also leaves behind her loving father, Michael Angelo Bruno, loving sisters, Lorraine Miller (husband Don) and Janet Blosil (husband Mark), sister in-law Liz Bertran, brother in-law Tony Scoma (wife Lisa), and brother in-law Vince Scoma (wife Claire), twelve nieces and nephews, and lifelong friends and hiking pals Kelly Alioto, Francie Louie, Nancy Denardo, Kathy Hawkes, and Valerie Schwartz.
Karen has touched the lives of so many, and she will hold a special place in our hearts forever.
A vigil will be held at Hull's Walnut Creek Chapel, 1139 Saranap Ave., Walnut Creek, Thursday, September, 26, 2013 at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Saint Isadore's Catholic Church, 440 La Gonda Way, Danville, CA, on Friday, September 27, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. Reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, a college fund has being established for Gianna and Angelina Scoma at www.karenscomasmemorial.com. Please contact Chuck Scoma for details.

My mom was amazing. She couldn't replace anyone else. I am going to miss her cooking, baking, cleaning the house 24-7 and just my mom. I remember every day I would come home from school and just tell her everything that happened. She always would gossip with me and would tell me what to do. She would also always help me with my homework... Anyways she was the best and everyday I still talk to her through prayer. Everything that happened was unexpected, but I am so proud of my mom for battling and battling this cancer. She got through breast cancer but then came a brain tumor. She was a fighter and this is why my mom is a role model to me and I will always look up to her. She was such a hard worker and never stopped, even if that means excerising, cooking or just trying to make everybody happy. Whenever I am in a situation I would always ask or talk to my mom, now that she is passed, I pray to her and I always ask myself... What would my mom do in this situation? I am also happy because now she is happier, now she can excersise, now sha can always be with our family and she isint in pain anymore. My mom is with me everywhere I go, school, home, and soccer. On my jersey we have KS to represent my mom, she loved watching me play and my team will always play for her because we know she is our guardian angel cheering us on. Anyways I love my mommy and I will miss her so much, and I pray everyday and always will. Our family, in the end, will be reunited and we will be in Heaven, the happiest place on earth. I love you and miss you mommy

Dear Chuck and Family,

My deepest condolences in this sad time for You and Your Family.

My own Mother went to heaven two weeks ago. I know how much the pain hurts and how at times it takes away your breath. I sent my Mother the letter below, and it helped my soul. I hope you find it comforting.

Once upon a time an angel held my hand,
She wiped away my tears and helped me understand.
Our time on earth is brief, there's lessons to be learned,
Each precious day God gives us another page is turned.
Every chapter full of memories, times of joy and tears,
Triumphs and defeats, through every passing year.
She loved us unconditional, always by our side,
When no one else would listen, in her we could confide.
With gentle words of wisdom she led us on our way,
Down the paths of righteousness if ever we did stray.
She saw the light in everyone and gave with no regrets,
Always from her heart let's us not forget.
Angels come in many forms, for me it is my mother.
With love I cannot say in words there'll never be another.
Every day I turn the page in my heart will ever remain,
Everything she taught me as I stroll down memory lane.
Thank you God for giving me the most priceless of all treasures,
Help my Lord to keep alive her memory here forever.
I pray that I can some day be everything she hoped I would,
That's she smiling down from heaven knowing she did good.
As we gather here today there's no ending to her story,
Another chapter has begun full of grace and glory.
Gods called her to his heavenly home, part of his great plan,
Although it may be hard, we all must understand.
Faith is what is hoped for, things we cannot see,
Heaven is promised to all of us if only we believe.

Chuck, Angelina, and Family,

My son, Nicholas Devlin, was in the same class as Angelina from pre-K through third grade. Karen and I used to delight in taking a picture of Angelina and Nicholas together on the last day of school. We even have a picture of them on their First Communion! Our boys now attend St. Mary School. I told Nicholas just the other day that I was going to get in touch with Karen and ask her to meet me on their last day of eighth grade and take a picture of the graduates. I had no idea she was suffering with cancer. We are praying for you and your family as you carry this heavy cross. Chuck, I will get in touch with you when Nicholas and Angelina graduate and we will get that picture of Angelina and Nicholas! I know that Karen would love that and be so proud!

Scoma and Bruno Families,
I am so blessed to have had Karen in my life since our early days at Macy's. As the years passed and I moved here to Lafayette we
had the opportunity to share in each others milestones starting with her wedding to Chuck and her new family.
After that it was the birth of Gianna, then Angelina. It was so much fun to have someone to share all of this especially with Karen's sense of humor and passion. We always had something to talk about and great bouts of laughter.
Her family meant everything to her and may your memories provide comfort to you all. God be with you all throughout this time of sorrow.

Dear Scoma Family,
I am so sad to hear of Karen's passing. Karen and I met while volunteering at St. Isidore School, and it only took a few minutes for me to realize that I just LOVED her. She was a down-to-earth, "say it like it is" kind of gal, and I feel so fortunate to have known her. Please know that I am thinking of all of you, and praying that God comforts you.
Karen my friend, I will miss you.

Chuck, Im so sad about Karen's passing. What a wonderful girl! Im fortunate that I've had the chance to see her over the years. Either delivering a package at your door and catching up to see how everything was, or a wave while she and Kelly were on one of their walks. She always had a warm smile and something to say that made us both laugh. I can still hear her unique voice teasing me that she thought I looked exactly like my mom. Sending love, light and prayers to you and your family...wishing you peace. Love Dana
