Barbara Arelene Knowles-Hukkanen-Crist was born in Oakland, California. She attended El Cerrito High School and was a majorette, sang in the choir and played the violin. Barbara earned her teaching credential from CSU San Francisco and later her M.A. in Psychology from CSU Hayward. She taught in the Mount Diablo USD for 19 years. Barbara married Donald E. Hukkanen in 1955. She is survived by her beloved children Susan Jean Hukkanen and Brian Eric Hukkanen, grandchildren Brian Patterson, Rebecca Olson, Stephani, Kyle and Aaron Hukkanen, and great grandchildren Caleb and Alexis Patterson. Barbara was married to David L. Crist for 34 years until his passing. She is survived by his beloved children, Stacey Crist and Marchelle Peck and grandchildren Cassandra Carter, Rachel and Hannah Soloos. She is also survived by her beloved sister Judith Pedersen.
