Carlos passed away peacefully at San Ramon Regional Medical from a battle with pneumonia. Carlos is survived by daughters Sonya Dinsley and Julia Colmenares-Stewart, brothers Alvaro, Armando and Fernando Colmenares. He also leaves relatives in areas of California and the US, South America, and Europe. Born in Ocaña, Colombia, South America to Meliton and Anita Colmenares. He graduated from high school in Colombia, going on to win a scholarship to study chemistry at UC Berkeley California. He completed a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Chemistry and Chemical Engineering in 1953. He became a US citizen as well as earning a Master of Science Degree in 1956 from Washington State University, and a PhD in Chemical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytech Inst., 1960. A passionate student and expert in his field, he also acted as Professor whilst at Washington State and Rensselaer Polytech Inst. He worked as a Research Chemist at Lawrence Livermore Laboratory from 1960 until his retirement in 2000. He was an avid reader of history, greatly appreciated Classical music and the Arts, and enjoyed gardening, nature and wildlife. His generous character and kind disposition made a significant difference to the lives of many he touched. Family and friends are invited to a Memorial Service on Monday September 23, 2013 at 11:00am at Oakmont's Redwood Chapel, 2099 Reliez Valley Road, Lafayette, Ca 94549.
