Eva Shellenberg Obituary

Eva Marion Shellenberg
May 18, 1920- Jan. 4, 2014
Resident of Walnut Creek
Beloved mother of Vic (Sherri) Shellenberg, Margaret (Bruce) Herald, Mary (Win) Sale, Paul (Evelyn) Shellenberg; Grandmother of Shannon, Kristen, Greg, Jenny, Nick, Matt, Mandy, Heather, and Meghan; Great Grandmother of Charlie, Sam, and Lucy; sister of the late Frances Grabow, Twin sister of Etta Cavalli, the late Robert Asher, and the late "Bud" Asher; dear aunt and friend of many others.
Eva spent most of her childhood in the Owens Valley Town of Independence before moving to LA just before WWII where she met the love of her life, Daddy Vic. After the war they settled first in Oakland and then in Lafayette where she lived and raised her family for over 60 years. First came her involvement in Lafayette Valley Estates and Burton School, then Fairview School, Del Valle and Campolindo Highs. St. Perpetua's, St. Monica's, and St. Mary's were especially important to her during and after the time she raised her family. How she loved the green rolling hills, great oaks, and pace of life of this area. She always said the area was a great place to raise a family. Travel was dear to Eva, first with Vic until his death in 1981 and later through the Moraga Seniors. When she moved to Kensington Place, bridge seemed to take on a little more importance. She enjoyed many days of bridge with friends from Kensington, Rossmoor, and Moraga Seniors.
Family took center stage with Eva. She took such pride in saying how lucky she was that her kids and their spouses, grand kids and their spouses had grown up to be good parents and adults. Of course luck was only a small part of her success. As we know, it is more about the 20 loads of wash a week, family dinners, cheering in the bleachers, and never ending dropping-off and picking-up that contribute to success. These were the areas where Eva excelled in her life.
A Mass will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Mt. Diablo Blvd. at 10am, Jan. 21 followed by a reception. Family and friends are invited to attend. A private family burial will follow the reception. In lieu of flowers please remember the American Heart Assoc. and the Maryknoll Fathers.

Eva will always hold a special place in my heart. She has been in my life for as long as Mary has and truly family to me. I will miss her but know she is happy now with Vic and my Mom and Dad. May they all be happy knowing the "Circle of Life" continues with their lovely children and grandchildren. Love to all of you!
