Irene DeGroodt Obituary

Resident of Martinez
Jackie passed away peacefully in her Martinez home surrounded by her loving husband and daughters.
Jackie was born to Rachel Boardman and Jack Salisbury. She graduated from Sutter High School in 1949. Jackie married Milton DeGroodt on January 26, 1951. In 1955 the family moved to Myrtle Creek, Oregon. While in Oregon Jackie was active in the Methodist Church and started a kindergarten program. After substitute teaching for many years she returned to college and in June 1970 she graduated from Southern Oregon College. In 1972 the family moved to Martinez. She taught for Mt. Diablo Unified School District at Bel Air Elementary for 21 years. She was known for the plays her first grade class put on each school year. Jackie was very active in the Concord United Methodist Church. She was past President of United Methodist Women and participated on many committees. She was active in California Retired Teachers Association and was President for two years. Jackie loved line dancing and performing in shows.
Jackie is survived by her husband, Milton DeGroodt, her daughters, Shelly Langston (EZ), Sharon Reposa, Janet Kemp, Jill Villa (Art) and her sister, Grace Heffner (George), 12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 13 at 1:00pm at Concord United Methodist Church,1645 West Street. If you choose to make a donation in her name, Hospice of the East Bay or Cancer Society are recommended.

Mom, I miss you so much. Things have really changed since you left us. Michael, one of your great grandson is getting married July 23rd to a special girl. Jaz, we all love her. Michael and Jaz saved their money and have bought a house. A cute ; bedroom in the neighborhood Brian bought his first house. Two of your granddaughters, Jennifer and Paula both got married on your birthday in 2017. We all live and miss you mom.

To the Family . Im so sorry to you all for your loss. My mom and Jackie were best friends here in Meridian when they were young, and remained friends throughout their lives.I loved listening to all the stories. They truly had a special friendship.Until they meet again, God Bless the family and friends.Love you Jackie.

You have a beautiful family here in SC that I have enjoyed knowing so much. I know you will be missed by them and many others. I can see so much of Shelly when I look at your picture.
