Jan was born on July 20, 1940 in Salem, SD to Sol and Nellie Edwards. She had three siblings, Robert (deceased), Gerald and Larry. Her early years she spent growing up in Pierre, SD, but, because her father was in the service, she also grew up in New York, California, Japan, Virginia, Kansas and France.
Jan graduated from Kansas State University, with a Bachelor's degree and teaching credential. While at college, she met her husband to be, Jim Christie. After graduation, she took a teaching position in the junior high system in Torrance, CA. On June 22, 1963, she and Jim got married and started a family. Soon to arrive were Jeffrey in 1964 and Christopher in 1972. During their life together, Jim's job caused them to move to various places, from Torrance to San Francisco, to Japan, New Canaan, CN, Chicago (Hinsdale), Ill, Fullerton, CA and then back to Walnut Creek, CA.
Their sons married and gave Jan six wonderful granddaughters. Jeff and his wife Nora have two daughters (Olivia and Julia) and live in Valencia, CA. Chris and his wife Annie have four daughters (Emma, Brooke, Ashleigh and Susannah) and live in Charlotte, NC. Jan loved to spoil the girls and the girls gave a lot of love right back to her.
Jan had many interest in life. Her major interests involved her granddaughters, her kitty cats, needlepoint stitching, gardening and aerobics dancing. Jim and Jan had a wonderful life together and she will be missed by all her friends and family and especially her husband of 50 years.
Janice passed away on December 3, 2013. Viewing will be from 1 - 2 pm followed by a memorial service at 2 pm Sunday December 8 at Oak Park Hills Chapel 3111 North Main Street in Walnut Creek. Express condolences at www.oakparkhillschapel.com
