Marjorie Freethy Obituary

Marjorie F. Freethy
June 14, 1908 - Sept. 29, 2013
Resident of El Cerrito and Alamo
Marjorie (Mimi) was born in Point Richmond, California, the only child of Eugene Bartlett Allen and Maybelle Roth Allen. Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Freethy, in 1998. She was a third-generation Californian, whose great grandmother came to California from Pennsylvania by covered wagon in the early 1850's.
Marjorie married Elmer in San Rafael in 1930. She is survived by her daughter, Marylee Kollehner (Richard Kollehner), her son Jack Freethy (Carole Freethy), seven grandchildren, Kathy Kollehner of Alamo; John Kollehner of Houston, Texas; Ken Kollehner of Auburn, California; Janice McGregor of Los Osos, California; Jim Freethy of Danville, California; Sandra O'Dea of Napa, California; and Jacqueline Freethy of Lafayette, California; 17 great-grandchildren, and six great-great grandchildren.
Mimi spent her youth on a farm in Santa Rosa. She graduated in 1929 from U.C. Berkeley with a major in physical education. She was a ballet dancer, and her athletic skills continued through her life, especially in golf and bowling.
After a brief job as an elementary teacher, Mimi became a full-time wife and mother, being very supportive of her husband in his construction business. Elmer and Marjorie owned and operated the El Cerrito Mill and Lumber business for 56 years. They owned and raced harness horses, raised cattle, hops, and apples in Sebastopol, raised cattle, melons and tomatoes in Modesto, and finally established a grape vineyard in Napa. Mimi was a world traveler, a shop-till-you-drop shopper and a lover of dogs. All of these activities added up to 105 years of an active and alert life. She enjoyed every minute of her life with a great attitude.
A celebration of her life will be held for all her friends and family at Sunset View Chapel, 101 Colusa Avenue, El Cerrito, California, at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 26th, 2013.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Scholarship Funds of El Cerrito Rotary Foundation, P.O. Box 44, El Cerrito, California 94530, or the Soup Kitchen, c/o Christian Home Missionary Baptist Church, 26 West Barrett Avenue, Richmond, California 94801.
