Mary Garvey Obituary

Mary F. Garvey Aug. 14, 1922 ~ July 18, 2013 Resident of Orinda, CA Mary Garvey passed through Heaven's gates the evening of July 18th. The widow of Nicholas G Garvey, Mary was an active parishioner and volunteer at Santa Maria Catholic Church in Orinda, CA. She is survived by many nephews and nieces in Ireland, especially Breda and dear friend Bridie. Mary is also survived by her loving step children, Mary Herrick, Nicholas K Garvey, Brian Garvey, and grandchildren Erin, Kathryn, Phillip, Sean, Katherine and Ross. Born Mary Clare Farrelly in Kells, Co. Meath, Ireland on August 14th 1922, daughter of Edward Farrelly and Bridget Caffrey, the second youngest of 9 children. She came to America to join her sister Ann and Ann's husband Ted in 1950 and worked for the Bell Telephone Company until her retirement. She was happily married to Nicholas G Garvey from 1980 until his death in 2004. Mary was a very kind and fun loving spirit who was a very special person to all of the children in the family that she doted on so lovingly. All the grandchildren, grand and great-grand nieces and nephews all have very special memories of "Gamay" or "Auntie Mary". She spent many years volunteering at Children's Hospital and as a member of the Helping Hands and Loaves and Fishes societies and she managed the church linens for almost 40 yrs. She leaves behind many dear friends from the parish and the gang at the Village Inn Cafe. In lieu of flowers, a donation to Santa Maria Church in her name for a memorial marker would be appreciated. All services will be at Santa Maria Church, 40 Santa Maria Way, Orinda, CA 94563. (925) 254-2426 A Rosary Service will take place at 7:00 pm Fri., July 26 and a Funeral Mass at 11:00 am on Sat., July 27.
