Maryellen McCormick

Maryellen Foley McCormick July 17, 1915 ~ July 12, 2013 Resident of El Cerrito Maryellen Foley McCormick died peacefully on July 12th in her El Cerrito home. She was 97. Born in Richmond, CA Maryellen was a long-time resident of El Cerrito. She was its City Clerk for approximately 30 years, beginning in 1942; she was re-elected six times before the position became appointive. Thereafter, she served as the part-time City Clerk of Hercules, CA for more than 5½ years, beginning in 1974. Her loving and beloved husband, Joseph P. McCormick, predeceased her in March 2010. Maryellen was the eldest child of Mary Cronin Foley and Daniel Cornelius Foley, both of whom emigrated from County Cork, Ireland in the early 1900's. Her sister Margaret Foley Allen, brother Cornelius Foley and sister Nora Foley Flynn all predeceased her. Maryellen was and is beloved by her many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Maryellen lived a long, healthy and happy life. She would want to thank all her family and friends who kept in contact with her so faithfully, especially during her final years. Family and friends are invited to a memorial Mass which will be held on Saturday, August 10th at 9:00 AM at St. Jarlath's Catholic Church, 2620 Pleasant Street, Oakland, CA (510-532-2068). Arrangements are being handled by Wilson & Kratzer Mortuaries, 455 24th Street, Richmond, CA (510-232-4383). In lieu of flowers, Maryellen asked for spiritual bouquets.
