Patricia Renworth Obituary

Patricia Smith Renworth
Resident of Moraga
Patricia (Pat) passed away peacefully and painlessly at her home on January 9, 2014. Her family was at her side comforting her when she passed.
Amy Patricia Smith was born in Eureka, CA, on Dec 29th 1925 to Charles and Amy Smith. Pat's father and grandfather were bridge and road builders who completed an important section of Hwy 101 near Willits, CA. Pat spent a good bit of her early years in the bridge and road camps and even assisted them in the construction of the highway. It was at one of these bridge and road camps that she saved her younger brother Sid from drowning. Pat spent a short time attending a one room log cabin school house in Redway, CA, which no doubt sparked her interest in later becoming a teacher. After graduating from Eureka Senior High School in 1943, she enrolled in Humboldt State College. There were 250 women and 5 men at the college. After two years, she became an engineer with the State Highway Dept. When the men returned from the war, she went back to Humboldt State and met a star player on the baseball team, named George Henry Renworth.
Pat and George were married in 1949 and had three wonderful sons, Kenneth, Britt, and Patrick. George and Pat were married for 64 years. Pat was a homemaker and an incredible mother and wife for many years. She returned to school in the late 1960s to attain her teaching credential. She then went to work as a 4th grade teacher in the Walnut Creek School District where she later won a teacher of the year award. When Pat and George relocated to Upland, CA, in 1977, she continued as a teacher in the Cucamonga School District. In 1988, she was awarded teacher of the year in that school district as well.
Upon retirement in 1988, she and George moved to Miramonte Gardens in Moraga, CA. Pat took an active role in serving her community. She was president of the Miramonte Gardens' Home Owners Association twice, served on numerous committees in the association, and was in many ways the backbone of this neighborhood for 25 years. Needless to say, she was highly respected by all those who knew her.
Pat, George, and their immediate family spent many happy moments attending Giants and 49er games. Family dinners were always a special time for Pat. Story telling was always robust and the laughter was heartfelt and deep. As with many families, Pat was the matriarch and the glue that bound the family together.
Pat is survived by her husband, George, her sons, Kenneth, Britt and Patrick, her daughter-in-laws, Judith, Noreen and Catherine, and her grandchildren, Nicole, Emily, Christy, and Seanna. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that charitable contributions be made to the Walnut Creek School District, the Cucamonga School District, or the Moraga Rotary Foundation.
A celebration of Pat's life will be held in the Miramonte Homeowner's Association Club House on Sunday, February 9th, at 2 pm. Giants and 49er attire is highly recommended.

I am so fortunate to have worked with Pat as a teacher in Cucamonga. She was a wonderful friend and mentor. She was a very proud mother, and a great cook. I learned so much from her, and enjoy using her recipes to this day. I remember her traveling to watch 49ers games in New Orleans, then returning to school on Monday. She had an incredible work ethic, and a wonderful sense of humor. My condolences to the Renworth family. I know she will be missed. You were truly blessed to have had Pat in your life. I was as well.

George and family,
Our deepest sympathy in your loss.
We remember the "good old days." at Humboldt and remember what an energetic personality Pat was. Kept everybody busy trying to keep up. It was a joy knowing her. Allan also remembers her from the WC school district and says she never changed. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
