Pete Riesberg Obituary

Pete Riesberg
August 8, 1939 ~ December 18, 2013
Resident of Alamo
A wonderfully intelligent, talented, humorous and loving husband, father, brother grandpa, uncle and friend has found peace.
Pete, the "old dog", passed away at home in the late afternoon of December 18 surrounded by his loving wife Daria, his brother Mike and sister-in-law Barbara, and so many of his dear friends
Our "Miracle Man" said it was "time to hit the road". Having survived brain cancer for eight years, he succumbed to a more aggressive cancer in less than four months. Pete, always upbeat, looked forward to his physical therapy sessions and the many friends and family who would visit daily.
Pete excelled in many sports: swimming; boxing at Cal Poly; kayaking Class 5 white water rivers and trying out for the 1972 Winter Olympics; coming in third in the 1979 Golden Gate Crossing in the Storm Sail Windsurfing Division; hang gliding; and, of course, running the Big Sur and Sacramento Marathons. Pete also loved music from opera to rap. He played the piano, guitar and was quite good on his beloved saxophone.
Pete was born to Edna Eicher Riesberg (Marks) and Clemons Riesberg on August 8, 1939 in Yuba City, California.
Pete graduated from Yuba City High School in 1957. He was honored to have obtained the Boy Scouts' rank of Life Scout and was selected to the Society of the Order of the Arrow. He attended Yuba College and Graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in 1963 with a BS in Industrial Engineering, and then from the University of Cincinnati where he earned his Master's Degree in 1967. He was a licensed civil engineer in California. Pete worked for General Electric, American Racing, and was a partner in Creative Systems.
In 1981 he founded Advantage Computer Systems Corp (aka Advantage Law) with offices in California and Colorado and was still working at the time of his death.
Pete and Daria married August 20, 1977, at their home in Orinda and moved to Alamo in 1979. They joined Round Hill Country Club and took up tennis, and later golf. He and his friends loved to sit under the "umbrella of knowledge" on Saturdays and discuss current events and "guy" stuff.
Pete leaves behind his wife of 36 years, Daria. He is survived by his sons Michael and Derik, his brother Mike and wife Barbara, his sister Gayle and half-brother Russell, his brother-in-law Tim Quinlan and wife Dr. Audrey Quinlan, and his mother-in-law Dorothy. Pete loved being "grandpa to his grandchildren Justice, Heather, Caitlin and Brett teaching them swimming, tennis, golf and his favorite musical instruments. He was a fun uncle to his niece Tara and nephews Lon, Damon, Travis, Wes, Tony and Dan. Two of the many of his most memorable times were kayaking in Alaska with his brother Mike, son Derik, and nephews Damon and Lon. Also driving with his friend Ron to Ixtapa, Mexico, while listening to music, and playing golf, especially at El Tamarindo in Puerto Vallarta.
There wasn't anything Pete didn't like… he even got over his fear of heights and spiders… but he especially liked traveling with Daria and friends all over the US, Europe and Mexico, and with his "buds" on special golf and river rafting getaways. Very special and close friendships were made over the past 27 years.
A private interment next to his Mother will be held at the Alamo Cemetery for family and close friends. A Celebration of Life will be held at Round Hill Country Club at a date yet to be determined. A notice will go out in the next few weeks.
The family would like to thank all of you who cared so much for Pete. Your love and caring has meant so much.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to the American Cancer Society or to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
