Sidney D. Lyons
May 5, 1922 - January 10, 2014
Resident of Walnut Creek
Sidney David Lyons passed away on January 10, 2014 at the age of 91. He was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. After graduating from the Lawrence Institute of Technology, Sid proudly served as a Naval officer in WWII. He returned to earn a degree in architecture from the University of Michigan. In 1952, he and his wife Trudy moved to the SF Bay Area. They lived in Kensington, Lafayette, and later moved to Rossmoor in Walnut Creek. Sid was an accomplished architect, owning and managing a firm that specialized in the design of hospitals. Sid was on the team of architects that designed the current Kaiser Walnut Creek Hospital. He also designed schools,libraries,custom homes and commercial buildings throughout California.
He enjoyed traveling, painting watercolors, and serving his community. He will be remembered for his kindness, humor, and generosity.
Sid was predeceased by his loving wife of 58 years,Trudy and is survived by his sons, Bill (Janet Polasky) of Portsmouth,NH; Mark (Linda) of Alamo; and daughter Andrea Johnson of Martinez. Sid was a loving grandfather to Michael, David and Marta. He will be greatly missed by his sister, Donna Frankel; brother-in-law, Jack; nephews, Jeff and Morgan; and dear friend, Nada Neumann.
Donations in Sid's memory can be made to the Neumann Scholarship Fund, c/o Patricia Waddell, 5581 Terra Granada Dr, Walnut Creek, CA 94595 or to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Disease.
