Susan Bennett Obituary

Susan Bennett
June 2, 1936 - Nov. 21, 2013
Resident of Livermore
Susan Lacey Bennett passed away on November 21, 2013, at age 77 of a heart attack. She was born June 2, 1936 in Los Angeles.
She earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Geography/Cartography at UCLA. Susan was one who loved to travel so on her graduation she and a girlfriend picked up a VW overseas and spent a number of months touring all over Europe. They were in East Berlin just before the wall went up. When she returned to the States she took a job in Washington DC working for the US Army Map Service. She lived in DC for 3 years before moving back to the west coast for a job at Lawrence Labs in Livermore. She stayed there until she retired.
In 1982 she married the love of her life, Ernest Bennett. Not only did she get Ernie but she also got 5 kids in the bargain. She could not have been happier. Ernie loved to travel as much as Susan and they took many trips together including such exotic places as Russia, China, and Europe. They loved spending as much time as possible up in their cabin at Lake Pillsbury, aptly named Shangri-La. Bridge was a lifelong hobby for them and they played with several groups of friends often, which Susan continued to play with 3 times a week after Ernie passed away in 2009.
Her brothers survive her: Mark (Robin) and Jim (Sue). The Bennett children: Kristine (Brett), Kathyrn (Brendan), Brian, Bradley (Ruth), and Bruce. She had 9 grandchildren, 6 nieces and nephews, and 4 great-nieces and nephews.
Services celebrating her life will be held at the LDS Church, 950 Mocho St., in Livermore on December 13, 2013 at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to The Livermore 3rd Ward-Perpetual Education Fund, 1662 Vetta Dr., Livermore, CA 94550.

Susan was a person who I never heard speak negatively about any person, co-worker, place, or thing. A rare happening in this world of today. Susan was always upbeat, a joy to see and talk with and I still miss her.

Now I know why I didn't hear from Susan at Christmas and why her phone didn't work. Met Susan in 1956 as we worked at the Edison Co. in L. A. So we span a long time. What wonderful memories we had throughout the years.

Susan and Ernie were some of our best friends when we lived in Livermore and also after moving away in 1993. We always saw them whenever we visited town. We visited them in Shangri-La years ago and always enjoyed playing bridge over the years. Susan and Jenny were in the same department at the Lab. Bob and Jenny Crow, Gold Canyon, Arizona.

I met Susan only a few years ago and was immediately taken by her courage, intelligence and dignity. May she rest in peace and may her family find comfort at this time of loss.

I will miss our conversations. Your laugh over the phone and your warm kind spirit. Now you can be with my father and Sheba. HUGS!

We loved you through the years. Had the greatest of times and we will miss your smile, your company and your hugs!

My fondest memory of Susan is her ever enduring smile. Her smile: always there to greet you and always there to say good bye. I could even hear it over the phone during our conversations. We will miss you Susan, but we take solace in knowing you are joining Ernie and Sheba in the Shangri-La in the sky.
