Volney Peters Obituary

Volney Monroe Peters
Long-time Resident of Walnut Creek
Volney, passed away Dec. 28, 2015. Pete as he was known by family & friends was born Jan 1, 1928 in Minnesota to Volney and Lucy Craft Peters. His family moved to San Diego, Ca. when he was a young boy. He attended Hoover High, Compton Junior College and University of So. Cal (Go Trojans) served as football captain at all three schools. He also served our country in the Marine Corps. His talent and love of football landed him an 11 year career with the NFL, playing defensive tackle for the Redskins, Chargers & Raiders. His final 2 years were with the Oakland Raiders which was what brought him & his young family to Walnut Creek. After retiring from the NFL he picked up a hammer (sludge) to be exact and began a career in construction, building many new subdivisions in Contra Costa County, including Rossmoor. Pete was known as one of the sweetest most gentle giants of all. He had a deep love for his family, his pets & restoring old cars & trucks with his boys. He was preceded in death by his wife Margaret and youngest son Scott.
He will be greatly missed by his 3/6 remaining children. Mary & (Chris Harvey) of Graeagle, Ca. Dianne & (Jeff Wilcox) of Bend, Or. and Dirk & (Peggy) of Brentwood, Ca. 7 grandchildren & 15 great-grandchildren.
Rest in Peace dear
Dad, our hero.
