Constance Phillips Obituary

Constance Van Maren Phillips
Jan 31,1919- Nov 16,2013
Former Resident of Fair Oaks and Pleasanton
Connie passed away peacefully with her daughter by her side after dementia and declining health finally overcame her strong spirit. She was born to Cornelius and Loretta Van Maren, who were part of the early settlers in the Citrus Heights area. When she was a child, she loved to spend summers on her Grandparents sprawling ranch where she developed a love for nature, gardening and animals which continued her entire life.
Connie held the position of Junior Purchaser for The City of Sacramento during the 1940's and 1950's. She moved to Pleasanton in 1970 and lived in the same house for 37 years. She also lived at the Stratford at Countrywood in Lafayette, Ca and Stamm Care Home in Alamo, Ca.
Constance volunteered thousands of hours over the course of forty years and three hospitals as a "Pink Lady" She also was in charge of Jewelry at the American Cancer Society in Pleasanton and worked there late into her eighties, still able to drive herself.
Connie love to attend plays and had subscriptions to the ACT in San Francisco. She also enjoyed needlepoint, knitting and was an avid collector. She had a knack for assembling eclectic outfits and looked sharp in leather pants for both her eightieth and ninetieth birthdays.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George, brothers, Douglas and Jack, and sister Kathryn. She is survived by her daughter Jill, son-in-law Daniel, and grandchildren, Brittany and Christopher.
Donations may be made to Hospice of the East Bay or Tri Valley SPCA.

Connie volunteered many years at The American Cancer Society Discovery Shop where she was our jewelry and collectible expert. She spent countless hours cleaning and sorting jewelry at her kitchen table. I'll always remember the times after the shop closed just sitting and talking, she was a woman I'll never forget.
