Craig Z. Randall Obituary
Craig Z Randall
Feb. 16, 1922 - Sept. 7, 2013
Resident of Clayton
Craig Z Randall, 91, passed away on Saturday, September 7, 2013 at his beloved home surrounded by his family. He was a resident of Clayton for 53 years. He was born February 16, 1922 in Salem Oregon, the third of three sons of Kenneth and Francis Randall. After graduating from Salem High School in 1940 he joined the Navy and served during WWII in the South Pacific. He married Mary Jane Vaughn in the Summer of '42. Craig and Mary were married for 63 years when Mary passed away in 2006. Craig and Mary had three children, Craig V. Randall (wife Janice and son Craig C. Randall), Prentice Osborn (husband Ron and daughters Dana and Kelly), and Kerry K. Randall (partner Gerry Teasley). Craig graduated from Cal Berkeley and Hastings Law School. He was a successful attorney for many years and was an early pioneer in establishing racially integrated law firms in the Bay Area. Craig was an avid golfer, having started as a caddy at the age of 13 and played continuously until a couple of years ago. Craig was instrumental in establishing the Contra Costa County Water District and served as the president of its Board of Directors for over 20 years. He was also instrumental in the development of Los Vaqueros Reservoir and the Randall-Bold Water Treatment Plant. One of Craig's life-long passions was the family home in Elkhorn Valley in Oregon, which he diligently maintained for decades and has served as a treasured retreat for family and friends. Craig was a much-loved husband, father, grandfather, mentor and friend and will be missed by all who knew him. The family thanks Kaiser Hospice for their amazing care and support. An open house at the family home in Clayton is being planned for Saturday, September 21st from 2 - 5 pm. The family suggests memorial contributions to Save Mount Diablo 1901 Olympic Blvd #320 Walnut Creek, CA 94596
