Donald Gilbert Dickson July 5, 1916 - May 17, 2012 Resident of Benicia Don passed away peacefully at his home with his family at his side at the age of 95. Born in Monterey, he grew up in Berkeley, attended University of California in Berkeley, raised his family in El Sobrante and retired to Benicia. A proud WWII Veteran who served in the United States Navy Submarine Service from 1942-1945. A Chief Radio Technician on the USS Skate (SS305) for five war patrols and received the Bronze Star Medal. Don's telecommunications career spanned 41 years at Western Electric and AT&T with retirement from Pacific Bell. He taught Ham Radio Courses at Contra Costa College in San Pablo (Handle K6TGJ). Member of Benicia Yacht Club, Vallejo Chapter of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary, Veteran out of the Mare Island Base, Certified Holland Club Shipmate and Life Member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Vallejo Chapters of WWII and USSVI. Survived by daughters, Suzanne (Dick) Fox, Linda (Larry) White and Carol Sheridan; 7 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren. Married 64 years to Vivian, who preceded him in death on September 17, 2005. Vivian's Urn has been interned at Skyview Memorial Lawn. Now they will be buried together at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon. Friends and family are invited to attend the burial on June 15 at 12:30 p.m. and the Celebration of Life to immediately follow in Vallejo. Contact the family for specific directions.
