Donald Mark Johnstone, 92,passed away on March 4, 2014 in Concord, CA. He was born on September 17, 1922 in Port Townsend, WA to Joel and Josephine Johnstone.
Donald grew up in Orosi, CA and graduated from Orosi High School in 1939. After high school he attended Reedley Junior College before enlisting in the United States Air Corp. He was stationed with a bomber squadron 376 in Libya and Italy during WWII for three years before earning an honorable discharge in 1945. After his service, he received a BA in Industrial Art from San Jose State and worked for the Mt. Diablo High Unified School as an industrial arts teacher and later as a Child Welfare and Attendance Office until his retirement.
Don married Dorie Johnstone in 1944 in Lincoln NE. They were happily married for 70 years. Don was a skilled carpenter and furniture maker and built two of their homes in Lake Tahoe. They spent time between their homes in Concord, Tahoe and Kailua-Kona
Donald is survived by his wife Dorie of Concord, CA; their 2 sons John (Anne) and Rod (Paula) and their granddaughters: Allison, Emily, and Katrina.
A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church at 1965 Colfax St. Concord, CA at 11:00am on Saturday April 26th. The family will be greeting friends and relatives at the reception immediately following the service.
