Esther Hibner Obituary

Esther Hibner
Sept. 4, 1921 - Nov. 25, 2013
Resident of San Ramon
Esther Luella Hibner passed away peacefully on November 25, 2013 in San Ramon. She was born Esther Mitchell in New Carlisle, Indiana on her family's farm on September 4th, 1921. Esther was the second of eight children and was proud that the family considered her the family trouble-maker. She attended a one room schoolhouse before going onto nursing school, and later graduating from the University of Indiana with her degree in education. Esther moved to California in the fifties and taught nursing at Merritt College. She met William (Bud) Hibner on a blind date and they were married in 1954. They had a daughter Beth in 1956. The Hibner family lived in Belmont until they moved to Woodside in 1968. Her compassion for the nursing care along with her wicked sense of humor made her a favorite with her patients. Esther and Bud were very active with the First Baptist Church in San Mateo. She and Bud lived by their Christian principles and continually helped others. Bud passed away in 1988 and Esther moved to San Ramon to be closer to her daughter's family, and in 1996 she moved to Rossmoor in Walnut Creek. Esther volunteered as a pink lady at the Rossmoor Medical Center for over 10 years, and served on many other committees. You could not walk through Rossmoor with Esther without running into someone that wanted to thank her for some earlier service! She was beloved by all who knew her. Esther is survived by her daughter Elizabeth Bay, son-in-law Bill Bay, grandson Patrick Bay of San Diego, and granddaughters Katie Bay of Sacramento and Kelly Schaa (Josh) of Gilroy; her brother John Mitchell, and many nieces and nephews. There will be a memorial service December 6 2013, at 11:00AM at Church of the Valley, 19001 San Ramon Valley Blvd, San Ramon. Donations to Alzheimer's of No. Cal in lieu of flowers please.
