Frank Joseph Mandic

Frank Joseph Mandic Oct. 10, 1917 ~ April 28, 2011 Resident of Walnut Creek Frank was born in Los Angeles, California, one of eight children to Croatian immigrants. He attended Oregon State University on a basketball scholarship and graduated in 1938. While there he met and married his wife of 53 years, Shirley Stuart. He attended Annapolis Naval Academy and served in World War II as a Lieutenant in the South Pacific on the USS Bland. Frank worked for Crown Zellerbach Corporation until his retirement. Frank was active in SIRS and St John Vianney Catholic Church. His interests included gardening, golf, bocce, baking cookies and pies, bridge and a gourmet dinner group. Frank was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley, in 1993. He is survived by his daughters Cary Mandic and Susan Fossan; son-in-law Mike Fossan; 4 grandchildren and 6½ great-grandchildren. Services were held May 4th at St John Vianney Catholic Church in Walnut Creek. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Shriner's Hospital, 2425 Stockton Blvd, Sacramento, CA 95817 or St. Jude's.
