Jean Barrett Krumboltz
Resident of Danville
Jean Barrett Krumboltz passed away peacefully at her Danville home at the lucky old age of 77 on August 15, 2014. She was surrounded by her family, who loved her immensely.
She is survived by David, her husband of 52 years, her children Debra, Susan, and Michael and her 2-year-old granddaughter Chloe. Other survivors include sisters Joan and Kathy and numerous nephews and nieces.
Jean was many things to many people. A devoted friend and teacher, a loving wife and mother, and a beloved grandmother who delighted in treating Chloe to snacks that weren't exactly healthy.
A lifelong learner, her interests were many and included Tai Chi, the Giants, theater, spirituality, and books of all sorts. Disinterests were limited to cooking, cleaning, and driving on freeways.
Jean was a fantastic listener. When she traveled, she made new friends. When she went to the grocery store, she made new friends. When she went to the dentist, she made new friends. If you knew her, you liked her. She was a fun and gentle soul who delighted in seeing others do well.
Jean was born on September 29, 1936 in Waukegan, Illinois to Jack and Frances Barrett. She attended the
University of Iowa
where she majored in theater. She met her husband David at an off-campus party. The two had dates with other people that
coming weekend, but both agreed to break them to spend time with each other.
Jean and David were married in 1962. Over the course of their marriage, they lived in California, Georgia, Michigan, and Ohio and took trips together around the world.
She will be missed by her friends, family, and all those who met her only briefly but were touched by her sweet nature.
Near death, she was asked how she felt. She responded, I'm grateful.
A service will be held Friday August 22 at St. Timothy's Church in Danville at 2:00 PM. The family would like to thank East Bay Hospice for providing excellent care during her final weeks. Donations may be made to East Bay Hospice in lieu of flowers.
