John McVicar Obituary

John Wilson McVicar
Feb 18,1920-July 2, 2013
Resident of Danville

On Tuesday, July 2, 2013, our dear father, John Wilson McVicar, passed away after a short battle with pancreatic cancer in his home of 55 years. His family was at his side. He had been a resident of Danville since 1950 and a long-time member of Immanuel / Peace Lutheran Church. His wife of 65 years, Eloise McVicar, and his brother, Donald, preceded him in death. He was born to Roy and Zola McVicar of Smith, Nevada, on February 18, 1920, but spent much of his youth in Napa, Sacramento and Oakland. He enlisted in the US Navy following the bombing of Pearl Harbor and served his country well in both World War II and the Korean Conflict. For many years, he worked at the Oakland Naval Supply Center, eventually heading the Department of Defense's West Coast Surplus Sales Office, from which he retired in 1975. In 1980, he retired as a CW04 from the US Navy after 36 years of service.
He was a true "gardener" at heart and could always be found in his lovely yard. He also enjoyed researching his family's genealogy, traveling, and being with family. Always willing to help others and quick to greet friends and neighbors with a wave and a smile, he will be so missed by his daughter; Bonnie Husted Sundberg (Fred); son, John D. McVicar (Mary Ann); daughter, Patricia C. Moresco (Rod); grandchildren, David Husted (Allyson), Kristen Rogers (Sean), Kelly Hunt (Joe), Katie McVicar, and Jennifer, Tim and Lindsey Moresco; and great-grandchildren Max and Sawyer Husted, Shane and Reese Rogers, and Ethan and Katelyn Hunt. He was also survived by nieces, Carol Steele and Marsha Skinner and their families.
Funeral services will be held at Hull's Walnut Creek Chapel, 1139 Saranap Ave., Walnut Creek, Wednesday, July 10, 2013, at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at Oakmont Memorial Park, Lafayette.

Sorry to hear of John's passing. He and I shared the distinction of being part of the legacy of La Gonda Ct. His smiling face will be sorely missed.
