Joseph Frank Di Maggio Former Pittsburg Resident Joseph, born July 1, 1917 in Pittsburg, CA, passed away peacefully in Houston, Texas on August 14, 2013, at 96 years of age. His loving granddaughter Lorraine Mac Queen, who has been his devoted caregiver for many years, was at his side. Joe is survived by sisters Marie Pirzzole And Nora Ferrante. He was preceded in death by sisters Jennie Bruno and Sara Russo, mother Annie Belleci Di Maggio; father Frank Di Maggio; and wife Lorraine Alicia Di Maggio. Joe is also survived by his children Mae Ferrero (Bob), Ginger Hatch (Jay), and Ernie Davis (Zora); nine grandchildren: Robert Ferrero, Jr. (Carolyn), Kelly Ferrero, Joe Sanchez, Artie Sanchez (Kim), Lorraine Mac Queen (Jeff), Thomas Rebeiro (Michelle), Susan Hagen (David), Ernie Davis, and Donna Davis and, many nieces, nephews and great grandchildren. A World War II Army Veteran, he was retired from Martinez Hospital, and is remembered as being a very loving father, grandfather and husband, totally devoted to his family. He enjoyed playing cards and celebrating family holidays. 'Nano was a loving father, and a wonderful friend, but most of all, he will be remembered as a great man. The kindness and love he gave freely from his heart was deeply received by all who cherished him.' (Written by his Great Granddaughter Christina Ferrero). He will be buried at Holy Cross Cemetery, Antioch, CA, to finally be reunited with his loving wife of 35 years, Lorraine Di Maggio. A graveside memorial service and a 'Celebration of Life' will follow at a later date.
