Kenneth Walters Obituary

Kenneth Rogers Walters Nov. 11, 1933 ~ Jan. 26, 2010 Resident of San Ramon Beloved husband of Colette Walters. He is survived by sister Fay Scott of Spokane WA. Treasured father of Kent and Larry Walters and daughters-in-law Lori and Leslie. He was blessed with many wonderful grandchildren: Christopher, Matt, Brian, Jeff, Jason, Katie, Annamarie and Danny; step-grandchildren: Mallery Mote, Jake Mote, and Lance Bunn. He was always known as Uncle Ken to his many nephews and nieces. Ken was born in Fresno, CA in 1933 to Henry and Kate Walters. His family moved to Oakland, CA in 1935. He graduated from Fremont High in 1951. Following his graduation he signed a professional baseball contract with the Detroit Tigers. Ken spent nine years in the minor leagues which included two years in the military, before finally making it to the major leagues with the Philadelphia Phillies in 1960. Ken was traded to the Cincinnati Reds in 1962. He retired in 1965 and moved to San Ramon, where he lived until his passing. Ken was a quiet, strong, fun loving man, whom everyone loved to be around. He married Colette Penhoet in April of 1955. They celebrated 54 years of marriage together and he treasured his relationship with his wife and best friend. His family always said he was a good sport when it came to participating in everything, even events that didn't excite him. Ken was a proud and generous person and he will be missed greatly. At the request of the deceased, there will be no services. Arrangements are being handled by the Neptune Society of Walnut Creek.

Although I never knew Mr. Walters, he entered Heaven on the same day as my 23 year old son Rodger who also passed away suddenly on 26 January 2010. May they Rest in Peace. God bless.

I am Ken & Colette's Daughter-in-law and the most profound observation of Ken came from my mother when she said, "I will always remember the twinkle in Ken's Eye". He was truely a happy man and watching Ken & Colette's relationship has taught me so many wonderful things, I will forever notice the same twinkle in his son Larry's eyes and remember Ken with lots of love!!
