Lucy Moyer Obituary

Lucy Michelle Duncan Moyer Oct. 14, 1971 ~ Dec. 14, 2009 Resident of Oakley Lucy Moyer, a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, teacher, and friend, passed away Monday, December 14 at Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley, while surrounded by family and friends. She is survived by her loving husband, Kenneth, of 14 years and their children Jessica, Rachel, and Mathew. Her mother Karen Duncan of Knightsen and father Marcus Duncan of Hayfork along with her bother Rob and sister Janel will sadly miss her. She is also survived by a larger family of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and in-laws from coast to coast. Born in Sonora, Lucy graduated from Liberty High School in Brentwood and from Cal State Hayward receiving a BA degree in liberal studies with a minor in music. She received her teaching credential from Chapman University and taught at Vintage Parkway Elementary for 12 years where she honed her love for teaching. Lucy, an avid reader, enjoyed the outdoors, hiking, photography, gardening, and playing sports. She regularly volunteered in her children's activities including the Contra Costa Children's Choir and the Aquaknights Swim Team. Lucy was well loved and will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. Services were held on Saturday, December 19th. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations br made to: CaringBridge.org; RelayforLife.org, the Moyer Children Education Fund (Bank of the West, 2195 Main St., Oakley, CA 94561), or any charity of your choice in Lucy's honor.

My condolences to Lucy's family, husband and children. I have not seen Lucy since high school when we were in the Liberty High School Band together. She was a senior when I was a freshman. I looked up to her and admired her as a leader in our band and remember that she was the lone female trombone player! So sorry to hear of her passing. Your family will be in my prayers.

My prayers are with all of Lucy's family. I always enjoyed sitting and visiting with Lucy at Jessica and my son, Ryan's, children's theater plays and practices. We had a lot of laughs and I will truly miss her. I'm so glad God gave me the chance to see her one more time before her passing and to give her a hug even though I didn't know it was saying good-bye at the time. However, down the road from now, we'll be able to give a hug again and say "hello"....

I HADNT SEEN LUCY SINCE WE WERE KIDS BUT WHERE WE COME FROM I LOST A FAMILY MEMBER.I SPENT TIME WITH YOUR MOM AND KNEW OF YOUR ILLNESS. My thoughts go out to Lucy's husband, children and family. I taught with Lucy at Vintage Parkway from 2000-2005 and saw her often around town after that. I will always remember her bright smile and fun loving nature.

Mrs. Moyer was my son"s Kindergarten teacher. He is in 6th grade now but she helped instill his love of education into his life which Im truly grateful. She passed on her love of books to him and everyday he learns something new by opening a book. I cannot put into words how much she will be honored and missed. Thank you Mrs. Moyer for giving my son his first start.
