Marian Baker Obituary

Marian Baker Resident of Martinez Marian Tsubota Baker lost her valiant battle with ovarian cancer on June 14, 2009. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Michael Baker, her children Philip, Jacob, Aaron, and Joy, who kept vigil at her bedside. She was preceded in death by her daughter Paula. Marian is the daughter of Ruth and Masao Tsubota of Walnut Creek. Her large extended family includes siblings John and Valerie Tsubota, David and Stephanie Tsubota, Naomi Sakata, Steve and Masako Longley, Laura and Robert Maneggio, Karen and Carl Groot, Janice and Michael Jensen, and numerous loving uncles, aunts, cousins, nephews and nieces. Marian was a graduate of Pleasant Hill High School, and received her bachelor's degree as a Registered Nurse from California State University at Humboldt. She wor- ked at Pacific Presbyterian in San Francisco, then as an ICU nurse at Contra Costa County Hospital in Martinez where she met her future husband, Michael. Marian was a champion for those in need, and worked tirelessly for the Older Adults Center and the Contra Costa Crisis Center. Even as she was getting difficult chemotherapy her care for others led her to get new items for the John Muir Medical Center Children's Oncology unit. She will be missed by her family, her many friends, and the community for which she did so much. "Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever." ~ Psalm 23:6 Viewing Friday, June 19, 5-7pm, Oakmont Mortuary 2099 Reliez Valley Rd. Lafayette. Service: Saturday, June 20, 1pm, Hope Center Covenant Church, 2275 Morello Avenue, Pleasant Hill. We lived on Juana Ct, just the next street over from the Tsubotas, an incredible family, incredible. I swam with John, Sako, Miko and David. Marian was the nicest person, just so incredibly sweet and kind. I’m sorry this tragedy happened to this wonderful family. Apologies for the late condolence. Xoxo Laurie

Dear Tsubota-Baker family,
I hope your warm memories of Marian's laughter and kindness give you comfort. It's a long, long time since I saw Marian, but I remember backpacking wither her and her sister, Karen with the girl scouts and sharing blisters and jokes. Pleasant Hill High has long since closed and I live far away in Paris, but when I got a note from my parents today about Marian it jolted me back to those long hikes and the smell of Scotch pines. Happy trails Marian.
