Martin Chamblee Obituary

Remembered In Love Martin Thomas Chamblee Resident of Concord Martin was born on August 16, 1922, in Wills Point, Texas to the late Alta Smith and the late Claude Chamblee. He departed this life on October 31, 2011 peacefully at his home in Concord, California. He was preceded in death by brother: Vaughn Chamblee and sisters: Etta Mae Foster and Joyce McKnight. Marty served in the United States Navy during World War II and survived the sinking of two ships as well as the attack on Pearl Harbor. He served aboard the USS Bradford, USS Indiana, USS Whitney and the P.C. 1129. After being honorably discharged, he worked at Shell Chemical and Shell Development before starting his own company, Chamco Welding. Marty spent the later years of his life fishing, camping and spoiling everyone around him; especially his grandchildren. When you arrive at the Pearly Gates and find a kind man helping you cross the street safely or selling you a pomegranate on the corner - know that it is Marty. If you don't see him there, he's probably gone fishin' or having a beer with the boys. Marty was happily married and devoted to his wife Phyllis Chamblee for 65 years. Together, they were blessed with three children; Janet Winter, Joanie Blanton and Donald M. Chamblee, five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Marty is survived by his wife, Phyllis Chamblee; brother, Dean Chamblee, son and his wife, Donald M. and Donna Chamblee; grandson and his wife, Donald T. and Elizabeth Chamblee, granddaughter, Desiree Chamblee; and great-grandsons, Tucker and Dominic; along with a host of other relatives and friends. On December 7, 2011 at 3:45PM, Marty's family will remember him at the annual Lighting of the Beacon atop Mount Diablo which honors the Pearl Harbor survivors. This is the final year this event will occur. At his request, no funeral services will take place.

I was sad to here about your father. I remember when my father had his machine shop down on Cloverdale Avenue and Chamblee welding was just down the street. They were friends and used to trade machining for welding. I took my cracked motorcycle case to Marty. He was the best welder and a nice person.

My sincere condolences to the Chamblee Family. My memories of Martin T will always be of a man devoted to his wife and family. I never saw him when he didn't have a smile on his face, called everybody "babe", and was an awesome gardner. I know he will be
missed, Sincerely, Sharon Campos (Bower)
