Mary Madeline Leal "Nonny" Jul. 2, 1916 - Mar. 31, 2013 Resident of Rodeo, CA Mary Madeline Leal passed away Easter Sunday, at age 96. Born to the late Joseph and Maria Machado, July 2, 1916, in Sacramento. The Machado descendents were a pioneering family in the Natomas area, immigrating from Pico, Azores in 1861. Joseph and Maria established the Machado family ranch in 1917. Madeline attended a one room school house in Natomas, graduating in a class of four with two first cousins. She attended St Joseph Girls Academy in Sacramento, graduating in 1935. Predeceased by husband of 53 years, Albert, and daughter Margery, and survived by daughters, Janice Gori and Lynne Dearlove (Dave), and sons, Alan Leal (Winona) and Wayne Leal (Bonnie), 15 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and 19 great great grandchildren. After raising her family Madeline returned to school, pursuing a midlife career in nursing. She "retired" from Merrithew Hospital, Martinez, 1979 but continued working part time as a nurse until almost 80. Madeline rarely sat still in her later years, spending time with her one true love, "My Al", at their vacation home near Mt. Shasta. She enjoyed her family, gardening, decorating, traveling, and many fraternal organizations. Nonny was the heart of our family and we will forever miss her. The family wishes to express our deepest gratitude to Angela & Hapa Koloi, and Leti Tausinga for their loving care of Nonny over the past 4 years.
