A loving mother, wife, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to many, Norma passed away peacefully on January 17, 2013.
Born to Alvia and Geneva Short in Grayville, Ill. in 1929, Norma was raised in Illinois until she married Paul, the love of her life, in 1949. She worked for Illinois Bell Telephone Co. and later became the Project Administrator for the Assistance League of Diablo Valley in Walnut Creek before retiring in 1991. After retirement, she continued volunteer work by becoming a life member of the Assistance League.
Norma's background and passion were music and community theatre. Along with a beautiful singing voice, she had a warm, kind personality as evidenced by her many friendships.
Norma was predeceased by her beloved husband of 60 years, Paul. She is survived by her five children and their spouses; Greg and Janey Schnurr, Marta and Bill Collings, Tami and Chris Carey, Curt and Kathy Schnurr, and Jana and Billy Mason. In addition, she leaves behind her brother Bob and his wife Shirley,niece Brenda Miller and Nephew Brad Short. Last, but not least, she is survived by her grandchildren and great-grandchild; Kimberly Schnurr, Maxx Schnurr, Molly Schnurr, Mike Collings, Vanessa Carey, Jennifer Carey,Ava Schnurr, Clayton Schnurr, and Jessica and Joel Secan and Elliott Secan.
Norma's family would like to express gratitude to her many friends for their kindness and in particular, Charmaine Ferrera, for her enduring friendship with their mother.
A celebration of Norma's life is scheduled for 10 a.m. on February 16th at Concord Presbyterian Church in Concord, Ca. In lieu of flowers, donations can be designated to: The Assistance League of Diablo Valley, Hospice of the East Bay, The , and/or Concord Presbyterian Church.
