She was born to the late Arthur and Eva Eslick, Jan. 1, 1930, in Hartshorne, Ok. She relocated to Contra Costa County in her youth and married the late Tony Scarfo in 1947.
She had a caring and generous spirit that included taking care of others as well as donating both time and resources to those in need. Those traits drew her to begin a career as a nursing assistant and later work her way up to becoming a nursing home administrator and owner.
She was an active member of Golden Hills Community Church, serving as a greeter and working with the youngest members. Rilda loved to travel, including trips as far away as England and Russia. She also loved to shop and to spend time with her family, including her numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Tony Scarfo, her mother and father, two younger brothers and two older sisters.
Rilda is survived by four children: Carol Pehl (Chet), Toni Johnson (Billy), Judy Barton (Bart) and Sandy Scarfo (Lloyd). She is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Friends and family are invited to a visitation on Monday, April 21 from 5-8 p.m. and a funeral service on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Brentwood Funeral Home, 839 1st St, Brentwood, (925) 634-2171. Burial to follow at Union Cemetery, with a reception afterward at Golden Hills Community Church, 2401 Shady Willow Ln, Brentwood.
