Rocco Covalt Obituary

Rocco Anthony Covalt 11/13/57-2/20/12 Resident of Clayton Rocco went home to be with the Lord at sunrise on February 20, 2012. He was born the 5th of 8 children to Buz and Joan Covalt in Salem, Oregon. Rocco grew up in the Bay Area and was a General Contractor who specialized in high end custom homes. He had a special gift for building and design. He took great pride in his work and fulfilled his dream of building his own home in Clayton. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. His love for the outdoors started at a very young age. He had a menagerie of animals as a child, from owls and hawks, to chickens and snakes. He was full of knowledge and called himself a walking encyclopedia. He had a zest for life and his glass was always half full. We will miss his outgoing and social personality; he made friends everywhere he went. He was especially proud of his two daughters Michelle and Laura. He was their biggest cheerleader. He leaves a huge hole in our lives and will be greatly missed. He leaves behind his wife of 29 years Rebecca, his daughter Michelle (Rex) Sheridan, daughter Laura (Adam) Epperson, 3 grandchildren, Emily, Jacob and Taylor Sheridan. He was looking forward to his new granddaughter Harlow Epperson due in April. He was predeceased by his granddaughter Lyla Epperson and his brother Jeff Covalt. He leaves his remaining siblings, Kim (Jack) Harris, Ferrelee Covalt, Paula Horn, Dominic Covalt , Darien (Stan) Kraczkowski , Damon (Sherry) Covalt and many nieces and nephews. As well as hundreds of dear friends. Memorial service: Saturday February 25th at 2 pm, Calvary Temple Church, 4725, Evora Rd. Concord, Ca 94520

Rocco. I have been listening to Bob Seger's greatest hits. I can barely keep myself from crying when I think of you. We shared the same passions about life, and the simple things; the outdoors, a good laugh, and curiousity. I'm just now beginning to feel, to feel the loss of you not being here. It is very hard. Sometimes, I set aside time to grieve. But as sit here right now, it is so crushingly painful, to remember you. I don't think I will ever "get over it". I hope we meet again in spirit. i love you brother! Darien-Mary Covalt

Dear brother Rocco, I miss you so much. I am so sorry your journey here on earth ended the way it did. Cancer is such a cruel disease. Iwill never get over it. Growing up with you was wonderful. You were so positive and so productive, I truly admired you and looked up to you. You will be in my heart and soul forever. Love, from your little sister.

Rocco was one of my favorite Uncles. He was always nice to me and made me feel like I was his buddy. Always was positive. Never really saw him act negative or like he wasn't enjoying himself. Really hard to put into words how he was to me, just a really cool Uncle. Always joking and kind of half serious with that smirk. Always patient and willing to explain things to me I was curious about. Wish I was able to spend more time with him and always wanted to go hunting with him since he invited me as a young boy which meant a lot to me. Just a super cool guy. Always loved his big trucks and and his style. Always seemed like such a good father too and raised the sweetest daughters. I'll miss you uncle Rocco. So sad I didn't make Laura's wedding and hadn't made it up there in a couple of years to see him and rest of my family. Just a great man and thinking about his character makes me a better person. I know he's alright where he is though and that we're all heading to the same place, just can't believe it. Love you Covalt girls! Stay strong and make him proud. He is watching and will be there with you.

I will miss Rocco's big smile, his friendly and outgoing personality and his positive and enthusiastic outlook on life. It has been so much fun to share our three mutual, beautiful grandchildren and enjoy the thrill of racing to the hospital when each of them were born. I know Rocco has left a lifetime of positive, precious memories for all who knew and loved him so much. Our prayers continue each day for his wonderful family.

Rocco reminded my children of his "Big Brother Jeff" the most,of all the men in the family. The way he walked and stood, greeted people etc.. The vision of them two brothers, with the way there mind"s worked building a perfect mansion in the sky is amazing.

I knew Rocco through City Electric working for my Father, John Martin. I always looked forward to working on Covalt Construction projects. We would arrive on site and Rocco would be at the tailgate of his truck with his coffee and blue prints. He would greet me with a big smile and say, "Greetings!" and I would reply, "and Salutations!" as I shook his hand. Then he would follow that with a, "How you doin'?" I Always loved his sense of humor and great hunting stories as well as some good jokes. He would always crack up at his jokes before he could finish them. It was an Honor to have known and worked with Rocco. I will miss him. My thoughts and prayers are with the Covalt family.

I am truly sorry for your loss. Rocco was best friends with my late brother in law, John Martin. I met Rocco when John passed in December 2009, but John spoke of him very highly. They both left us way too soon. I'm glad that they are together and waiting for us on the other side. They were so much alike. Great men. May God be with you. With my deep sympathy for Rocco's family and friends.

Our condolances to the Covalt family - It was a pleasure knowing him. He was down to earth, had a crazy sense of humor and I enjoyed interacting with him. Always willing to help and full of ideas. He helped us with a problem we had with our home and we much appreciated his help. God Bless you Rocco - We have our grandchildren today which is the only reason we will not be at the service but our hearts are with him and he will be remembered always.

We first met Rocco through his work renovating our home in Lafayette. He joked at the beginning of the job saying when you hire us to do your renovation, we become a member of the family. The inference was that they would be imbedded with us 24/7 whether we wanted it or not during the job. But the reality was that Rocco did become like a member of the family, taking great interest in our three boys, always asking about them. He would share his news about his daughters. It was obvious how proud he was of them and how much he loved them. Rocco was so full of life, it was infectious. We feel like a family member has left us. We will miss his zest for life. Though our lives touch casually over the years, we feel like we have lost someone that truly mattered to us. Our heartfelt sympathies go to his wife Rebecca, and daughters Michelle and Laura.

We send our heartfelt condolences to the Covalt family. Rocco was truly a sweet person and a great (and patient) contractor. He did a fantastic job on our new addition several years ago. Our Golden Retriever, Harley, loved it when Rocco called out "lunch" to his crew everyday. The guys all shared their food with him - and Harley gained about ten pounds during the project. He, too, is now in heaven - hopefully greeting Rocco with a big wag of the tail.

Our prayers and condolences go to you and your family. No words can express our feelings. But know that Rocco is with Jesus. Rocco encouraged our son Casey to further his career in construction. Thank you for that Rocco. I pray that during this time of grieving you know how much and how love Rocco had for everyone. God Bless you and your Family. David and Angie Ferriera

I was in total shock to hear of Rocco's passing. What a truely caring and friendly man he was. He gave me a tour of the lovely home he built and I was very impressed at the extent of his love for building
a custom home and his precise attention to every detail. It was with
great confidence in him that I would refer people to Rocco to have work done. You always would know that he would do a great job.
My sincere condolences go out to Rebecca, Laura, Michelle, and his entire family. Rocco will be greatly missed by everyone he knew.

Dear Covalt Family ~
Several years ago, when I was just a 'Newbie' with the 'Calvary Congregation,' it was impossible to miss the 'Servant's Heart' and hard-working 'Hands of Jesus' your Rocco blessed so-so many with! You will remain in my prayers for the Lord's covering of peace and comfort. I am so very sorry for a loss words cannot describe, and rejoicing for words far-less still, to describe the glory in which Rocco now lives ~ as he awaits you there...

February 24, 2012

As a fellow builder I had many pleasant lunches with Rocco, first at Station One in Lafayette, when they closed down at Caspers in Walnut Creek. Rocco lit the places up when that white truck with the antlers on the doors drove up, recently he asked if I would take him down to Silicon Valley where I am now building, the last I saw him he brought Rebecca and his two daughters to lunch with him and I had the pleasure of meeting his family.

I read his obituary at Caspers, I immediately took it to the girls at the counter, they were in tears, everybody loved Rocco, good bye Rocco, and the best to his wonderful family.

Known Rocco since we were thirteen years old, I have wonderful memories of us growing up together.
I will miss you Rocco.

February 23, 2012

I've asked myself many times over the last few days, "Why Rocco at such a young age?" The Lord obviously had plans for him. I've had to remind myself to remember that it's important to be grateful for the time I'd spent with him, and not be upset for the time I didn't have.

I worked on many very nice homes as a painter years ago, none of which were finer than Rocco's projects. Rocco was a true gentleman in all aspects of the business world and was a great family man. I was proud and thankful to have known him. We can all learn from how he lived and loved his life.

Our heartfelt condolences to Rebecca and the rest of the Covalt family.

When Rocco walked into the service drive here at Concord Chevrolet he lit the place up , when I first met him it was like we were old friends , the 2 years I was fortunate enough to know him will never be forgotten. When he found out my name was Vinny he would just go yo Vinny how you doin ,forget about it , but with a New York Mobster accent . I will miss his visits here. Rest in Peace and my Condolences to the family.
