Troy Cook Obituary

Troy Cook July 27, 1962 - Dec. 10, 2008 Resident of Martinez Troy was born in Vallejo, CA and moved to Walnut Creek as a young child. He was a dedicated father, loving son, outstanding brother, favorite uncle, and most loyal friend. Troy was always a complete joy to be around. He lived for his family, his children were his lifelong passion. He also enjoyed watching football for hours on end, riding his Harley Davidson, a little gambling here and there, his dog Jackie, his job, and all the great years of coaching baseball. Troy dedicated 27 years of his life as an employee at PG&E, starting at the young age of just 19. Troy took great pride in his job and would work endlessly until the job was done. Troy's character was definitely a one of a kind. He always displayed true kindness to everyone he came into contact with- including strangers on the streets. He never hesitated sharing whatever he had to give. His generosity has affected more lives than we'll ever know. Troy is survived by his children: Bryan Cook, Allison Cook, their mother Rose Rusca, Mitchell Cook, Mitchell's mother; Linda Gass, his mother Nona Cook (James Stonhaus), his siblings; Michael Cook, Traci Cook, Lara Gartside (Robert), nieces and nephews; Jason Cook (Lyndsey), Jeron Stotler, Chelsea Stotler, Adam, Justin, Noah, and Rylee Gartside, and great nephew Landon Cook. Troy was pre-deceased by his father Art Cook in 2005. The true love and happiness that Troy brought to his family and friends will be missed like no other, his genuine heart will be remembered by all that had the privilege of sharing life with him! Services are being held Thursday December 18th, at 1:00 p.m. at Creekside Church 444 Fig Tree Lane, Martinez, Ca 94553, with a celebration of life to follow at the Moose Lodge 414 Escobar St. Martinez A college fund is set up for Troy's son Mitchell Cook: Wells Fargo Bank, Account # 5283007127 For online obituary please visit traditioncare.com TraditionCare (925) 827-2911

I just most recently heard of Troys passing and am so sorry to receive the news. I have worked with Troy at PG&E for many years and had many interactions with him. As has been said he was one of a kind and such a loving guy. Always a nice thing to say. He will truly be missed and my condolences to his family and special thoughts to Linda and Mitchell.

Our thoughts are with Troy's family. Troy was such a generous man to all the boys who hung out on Gilger Avenue. Those boys have grown into young men and they will always carry the warm memory of their friend Troy.
With deepest condolences,

Hagan Kelly

I love Troy. He was the best. He wasn't just, "Mitchell's Dad", he became one of my friends. Ever since he moved down the street from Linda, his house was hella fun to be around. It was like that because he was like, "part of the crew", he was like a kid. God Damn, he was by far one of the nicest guys I knew. I love you Troy.

Dear Nona, Traci & Family:
I am so very sorry to hear of Troys passing. He was truely one of a kind and it was a honor to have known him. I got to know Troy thru my friendship with Traci during highschool. After highschool although we did not see one other on a regular basis, when I did run into him at the mall, repairing something with PG&E or what ever the situation it was like no time had ever passed. He always had a big hug ready and that endless smile just warmed your heart, especially when you asked him about his kids! I know he will be dearly missed and never forgotten. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. Love, Heide

Dear Nona and Family,

Mimi called to tell me the news about Troy I was so very sad. He was a true friend to me especially during high school, I will ALWAYS treasure his compassion, and his humor, and friendship, their are so many crazy and fun stories that I will remember about Troy.

I loved how he would come by my parents house and visit with my Dad, and sometimes sit and have a big Italian feast with us, and he'd always called my dad "POPs",
knowing it drove my Dad crazy :) Only he got away with that :) Then he would laugh his big laugh

He had such a wonderful spirit, and smile, and tender heart of anyone I have ever known, I will cherish that and his friendship always...Sincerly, Angela-Tarantino-McVane

When I lived in Martinez, Troy lived across the street from us and although we had a falling out at the end, I always thought he was a good guy and very giving of himself. He was helpful when we needed him and I enjoyed razzing him about the Niners and Giants, and he did the same to me about Oakland. I remember when I had surgery, he came over and mowed my lawn. Then I tried to give him money and he refused, saying "don't insult me!"...that's was Troy, always honest. My heart goes out to Linda and all his kids, especially Mitchell, our little pal that was always a joy to be around. Troy, if you could hear me, I'd tell you that I'm sorry we ended on a sour note and shake your hand, Martinez style! Rest in Peace bro.

I knew Troy at Golden Triangle Gym (later 24 Hour Fitness) in Walnut Creek. Although it has been years since Troy worked out there, he was a legend and his name still comes up regularly. He added a great deal of humor and joy to our sometimes tedious workouts. What a character! God bless you Troy.
