Elaine (Gertrude) Ernst Malone
October 13, 1923 - February 10, 2014
Resident of Rossmoor
Elaine passed away after a brief battle with pneumonia. Elaine was born in Seattle, Washington to her parents, Eugene E. & Gertrude E. Ernst. She and her family later moved in roughly 1930 to Oakland, California where she attended school and graduated from Holy Names High School in 1941. After attending some college Elaine worked for Travelers Insurance and also worked 20 years for the International Institute of the East Bay also located in Oakland where she made many, many friends. Upon her retirement from the Institute she moved to Rossmoor, California in 1995 where she joined many friends and participated in many wonderful activities and clubs. Elaine loved to travel, play bridge, play scrabble and read. She never forgot a birthday or important accomplishment of friends and family and was one of the last people to continue to send what we now call "snail mail" with beautiful cards and sentiments. She had a true love of Great Brittan where she was able to travel and visit.
Elaine is survived by her loving niece, Colette Byington of San Ramon, nephews, Richard Blakeslee of Portland, Oregon, Eugene Blakeslee of Monte Sereno, Ca., and John Blakeslee of Santa Cruz, California. Elaine was predeceased by her loving Sisters, Catherine Moran of Oakland, Margaret Blakeslee of Aptos, California, Niece, Mary Catherine Lamb and nephew Gary Blakeslee both of Portland, Oregon, She is also survived by many grand nieces, nephews and cousins and numerous life long friends. Elaine was a devoted employee and Board Member of Saint Anne's Catholic Church located in Walnut Creek,California where she contributed a great deal of her time and energy in many groups and activities.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate her life at a Memorial Mass at St. Anne's Catholic Church located at 1600 Rossmoor Parkway, Walnut Creek, California at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 8th, 2014. With a reception at the church hall from 12 noon to 3 PM immediately following. Her generous loving spirit will never be forgotten and greatly missed by all who knew her.
