Sarah Madora Sweeney passed away on Sunday after a brief battle with cancer.
She was living in the community of Rossmoor, where she had many friends and enjoyed the activities available in the Waterford Apartments.
Sarah was born Sarah Mador Long in Covelo, CA. to parents Edward H. Long and Alice Hurt Long. Sarah was the youngest of eight children. In 1937 she met and married Harrison Otis Sweeney. Sarah and Otis lived in several northern California towns and cities before coming to the Bay Area in 1942. They lived in war housing in Richmond where Otis worked in the shipyards. In 1948 Otis started a construction company and Sarah became the bookkeeper. Three children had been born to them by this time. Motherhood was her passion and she took great pride in her accounting skills.
Sarah is predeceased by her husband Otis and her daughter Barbara Coakley. She is survived by sons Thomas Ray (Anita) and James David (Pat). She is also survived by grandchildren Robert Coakley (Jody), Joseph Sweeney (Natalie), Ronald Coakley (Jennifer), Jill Rapier, Jim Sweeney (Kim), Karen Salvador (Reggie), Michael Sweeney (Aleyda), David Sweeney (Kim) and seventeen great grandchildren.
At her request private services were held.
