Sumiko Kurihara Obituary
Sumiko Kurihara
Resident of Walnut Creek
Sumiko Kurihara, 74, passed away June 28, 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband of 49 years Norman; mother Kikuye Okamoto; sister Tayeko (Paul) Aea and many dear relatives and friends.
Sumi was born in Sacramento. During WWII the family was interned at Tule Lake, CA. She attended school in Courtland, and graduated from UCSB with a degree in education. She taught primary school in Lodi, Woodland and retired from Mt. Diablo School District in 1995.
Sumi dearly loved arts and crafts, and delighted her many friends with her wonderfully crafted cards on every holiday. She was a connoisseur of good food and wine and loved to share both with friends whenever possible. There wasn't a place on the planet she hadn't visited or planned to visit. She will be remembered by all who loved her for her bubbly personality and ever present joy. Laughter and Sumiko went hand in hand through life.
By her request, no services will be held, no koden. If friends wish to contribute in Sumi's memory, they should send contributions to the in her name.
