Nell Dolly Obituary
Nell Dolly
April 20th, 1918 – July 11th, 2014
Resident of San Leandro
Nell Dolly passed away on July 11, 2014 in Modesto, California. She was born Nell Phipps on April 20, 1918 in Fergus County, Montana to Mr. & Mrs. Henry Phipps who preceded her in death.
Nell excelled in school and after graduating High School at the age of 16, at the height of the great depression, she moved to New Mexico. After a few years working in restaurants and then becoming a restaurateur, Nell moved to Washington State where she met Hubert Dolly. Nell and Hubert were married in 1941 not long before Hubert joined the war effort in December 1941.
At the end of WWII Nell and Hubert settled in Alameda, California, ultimately making their home in San Leandro. Nell was a devoted mother to her sons Hugh Dolly Jr. and Donald Dolly. Nell was active in her son's lives and took leadership roles in many of their activities. Nell particularly enjoyed her grandchildren Donovan and Daniel, providing her guidance to help them develop into great people. All the kids in her neighborhood loved Nell and benefited from her character and life examples as well as her incredible pot roast and awesome cookies. Nell was a positive influence in the lives of many children and enjoyed visits from them throughout her life.
Nell is survived by her Son Donald Dolly, and two grandsons Donovan Nixon and Daniel Dolly. Funeral services will be held at Santos-Robinson Mortuary in San Leandro Friday the 18th of July at 10:00 am immediately followed by a grave site ceremony at Mountain View Cemetery in Oakland.
