Obituary Condolences

Robert Devore Resident of Brentwood Robert (Bob) Bailey Devore passed away the early morning of June 2nd. Bobby was a lifetime resident of California who was born to Joseph and Tillie Devore on his mother's birthday, Nov. 19, 1931 in San Francisco where he was raised with his older brother Allen, and 3 younger brothers, Stan, Franklin and Douglas Devore. In 1962 Bob married the love of his life Betty, who preceded his own passing in Nov. of 2008. With the marriage to Betty, Bob inherited a family of five sons whom he provided father-like dedication to. In 1963 Betty and Bob brought a baby girl, Denise Rose, into their eclectic brood. For the next forty-five plus years Bob and Betty provided a home of optimism and encouragement that was extended to all family members that passed through its doors. After the Korean War, where he served in the Navy, Bob received his degree in Chemistry from San Jose State University and worked for Del Monte Research Center for many years. He also worked as a substitute science teacher and the EPA before he finally retired. As all those who knew Bob can attest to; Bob was an explicit storyteller who took pride in sharing interesting details that he collected as he ferociously read as much as he could. There was no doubt that he was on a first name basis with his local librarian. While family and friends will miss Bob, Dad, Grandpa, and Great-Grandpa, all are grateful that the union of Bob and Betty can continue as it was meant to be, for all eternity. Bob Devore is survived by daughter Denise and stepson Steve; 12 grandchildren; 8 great-grand-children; his brothers Stan, Franklin, Douglas, and sister-in-law Joanne. Friends and family are invited to the celebration of his life, Saturday July 24, 2010 at 1:00 in their Brentwood residence. Burial will be held Friday, July 23, 2010 at 1:30 at San Joaquin National Cemetery.
