Obituary Condolences

John F. Zyla Aug. 10, 1928 ~ Nov. 4, 2010 Resident of Walnut Creek John, age 82, passed away peacefully in his home on November 4, 2010. He will be deeply missed by his family and many friends throughout the world. Born in Prague, Czech Republic on August 10, 1928, John escaped from communist Czechoslovakia in 1948 to seek a better life. After living in Europe and throughout the Americas, he moved to the U.S. During a trip to Vienna to see his parents, John met Elizabeth and they were married in 1966. Having been a sales executive throughout his adult life, John owned a variety of businesses, from sporting goods (and the great success of Swiss Army Knives) to suspenders and advertising. John was quick to help family and friends with anything asked of him. He was a great conversationalist, who earned the respect of many business associates who became his friends. He enjoyed regaling in stories (both his and those of others), always looking to share a laugh! John loved to travel, spend time with his family and football (both styles!). John is survived by Elizabeth, his loving wife of 44 years, their three children Christopher (Madhuri), Andy and Marianne (Brian) Griffin, and 5 grandchildren, Jaya, Brianna, Jonathan (JT), Anjali and Kelli. Friends are invited to a Memorial Mass at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 2039 Mt. Diablo Blvd, Walnut Creek on Thursday, November 11 at 10am.
