Daniel R. Scheile May 10, 1968 - Sept. 23, 2005 Beloved husband of Jennifer Scheile, and devoted father of Kelli and Marissa Scheile. Devoted son of Ronald Scheile and Gay Scheile, loving and dedicated grandson of Melvia Reese and the late Keith H. Reese, and the late Gladys Scheile; caring brother of Trina Scheile, Anne Carroll, Ronald Scheile, Jr. and Carol Fulkerson. He was a treasured son-in-law of John and Rose Beason, and Manual and Michelle Pastor, and the most amazing uncle to Christofer Carroll, Brittaniy Carroll, Sam-antha Carroll, and Ariel Armanio. He was born in Vallejo, CA, and graduated from Antioch High School. Dan was a hero to all and died doing what he believed in - fighting for his country. He was in the Army National Guard for 17 years. He was the most caring and giving man you could ever know. He enjoyed cooking big family dinners for the Holidays, and watching Saturday morning cartoons with his children, or taking bike rides on his Harley Davidson - didn't matter what the weather was - rain or shine. If his bike was up and running, he did his best to be on it. Friends and family are invited to attend a viewing on Tuesday, October 4th from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm, and a Service will be held on Wednesday, October 5th at 10:00 am. Both to be held at Higgins Chapel, 1310 A Street, Antioch, 925-757-4343.

To Dan's family,
I was in 3rd platoon with Dan. I also served with Dan in Kuwait back in 2001. During that first deployment Dan along with Mike Sonoda and Paul Neubauer were the three guys who mentored and became encouraging friends when I was a young and scared PFC. I was with all of them again in Iraq and Dan really was larger than life. Dan was always a kind and understanding friend I could talk to without having to worry about being judged or ridiculed, I trusted him wholeheartedly. Dan was there for me for some of the toughest times in Iraq. I remember him sitting down with me on the balcony of our barracks after my friend John Fuller got hit. He put his arm over my shoulder and like a big brother told me that I could always count on him and the guys. Dan really was like a big brother to me. The night we got hit I was with Dan in his last moments, I held him until the tanks and the medevac came. As I write this I can't find any words to properly explain this moment with you. I only hope and pray that I can talk with you one day. In Dan's honor I named my son, born in May of 2008, Caleb Daniel LeMar. I hope I can find you and talk with your family someday, the family of one of the bravest most honorable men I've every known.

Danny, it's hard to believe it's been 4 years; we all still miss you very much! The girls are growing but miss you terribly. Your spirit will be with them always.
"Thank you for your service" seems so inadequate, but it is heartfelt and sincere, and the best way to honor you is to keep you in our hearts and memories always.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Daniel, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Remembering a Hero on his Birthday
Bill
May 10, 2008
Hi Kelli,
I never knew your Daddy. Any words that I say can not ease your pain or bring back your Hero.
Please remember all the wonderful times that you had with your Daddy. His spirit will be circling in the blowing wind.
Close your eyes and what do you see.
Sleep and Peace and your Daddy set free.
Free to ride the wind and touch us all.
Free to sing with the angels and thats not all.
Free in a place where spring is always.
Here and there your daddy is filled with glory.
All the smile that he gave,
All the laughter that was made
As the angels circle in the blowing wind
Always remember what we could not forget!!
Your Daddy will always be looking out for his little girl from heaven. He will be with you forever in your heart. Just call his name and his spirit to comfort you.
May god grant you comfort knowing that your Daddy is in heaven. Always remember that your Daddy is your Hero and will always be so proud of You

Kelli,
I just popped in to say that you are looked over and thought of daily...(wink) I trust your recent receipt of something special to commemorate your dad was received with warmth of heart. You always have an "Angel" by your side.
Keep your chin up high and know you are watched over from above.

Dear Kelli, Marissa and Jennifer,
My name is Kim Willmon and I live in Pekin, Illinois. I emailed your dad a brief time while he was in Iraq and I still have the emails if you would like them. I found his name for his unit on AnySoldier.com He also sent me pictures of all three of you and I still have those also. You are beautiful young ladies. He was so proud of all three of you!! It is his own words to a stranger (me) that he bragged about you. You all were the light of his life. I have looked for 2 years for a way to let you know and just now found this site or I would have sent this message sooner. He was so proud of your mom for being the mom and wife that she is, so proud of you with your cheerleading and so proud of Marissa for looking up to her big sister. He was a good man. Please let me know or have your mom contact me and I will forward the emails to you. My email is [email protected] or my work is [email protected] or my phone is 309-643-3919.
Sincerely,

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.
REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

Jennifer,Kelli,Marissa,and Dan's family;
I was Dan's Platoon Sergeant and Platoon leader (after ours got wonded)during our tour. It is with the humblest and saddest of hearts that I finally post here.
Dan was my "go to guy". We jokingly refered to Dan as "Peterson" from the movie "The Green Berets".He never, never failed in any task he was given. I have so many fond memories of Dan, both back on the FOB or out in the field in patrol. During dismounted patrols through the Palm grove jungles along the Tigis River,he always requested to be "point man". When my track got hit one night, he raced his track and crew at top speed passed mine, to assist and provide cover so we could engage the attackers. I could go on and on about Dan. He made me laugh so many times. He was such an impressive leader. The men in his section were the second most imporant thing to him. The first...His family. He always spoke so poudly of Kelli and Marissa. I was there that night...and it was an emotional ordeal for us all. There were hero's that night doing their all to protect and save Dan and the the others in his track. The forces that massed that evening was impressive to say the least. I will sorley miss them all. There is not a day or night that goes buy that I do not remember Dan and the others. Please feel free to contact me anytime. I would glady speak more if you so deisred.
With the utmost humility and respect

My brother in combat and will be my brother in heaven. Dan, keep the gates of heaven safe and protected, as you protected us on earth. We will greet each other again my brother and it shall be a grand reunion. I know you are smiling down upon on us from above, your spirit lives on with in us all my brother.
PSALM 91
He that dwelleth in the asecret place of the most High shall abide under the bshadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I atrust.Surely he shall deliver thee from the asnare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy ashield and buckler.
Thou shalt not be afraid for the a terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee. Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the awicked. Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy abitation;
There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. For he shall give his aangels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone. Thou shalt atread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the bdragon shalt thou trample under feet. Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name. He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him. With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.

To the Family of Sgt. lst Class Daniel R. Scheile:
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courgeous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life. We lost a son 12/1/05.
I know first hand there are no words right now that will bring you the comfort and peace you need. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you mourn this loss. We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with. I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally, but none of these courageous men and women will be forgotten. They will never be able to be replaced, but sometime, someday your loving memories will help to sustain you. This courageous soldier will forever now be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well. To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort. When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero. God Bless this courageous soldier and family.

My thoughts and prayers are with you. I felt the sorrow for the family realizing that the loss was for me and all of us who live here in this great country so that we may have the life we have grew to love. My prayers will be with in the days to come and remember when you see only one foot print in the sand it's because God is carrying you to the end.

To the Scheile Family:
My thoughts and prayers are with all of you during this difficult time. I was devastated when I heard the news about Dan. I still can't believe this has happened.
I was a friend of Dan and Jennifer, and lived behind them for the last 3 years in Antioch until about 1 month ago. I clearly remember talking to Dan one day about the military and his service, and I asked him 'aren't you afraid to go to war, if something happens?', and he replied 'not at all, it is worth fighting for'. I'll never forget that. Dan was committed to serving his country and protecting freedom. He is a hero in my book and I will never forget the sacrafice he has made for all of us.
I remember when my back yard fence fell down between our houses, and I planned to build a new one. Well, unfortunately the day before, I came down with strep throat and was very sick. Dan and Jennifer came over, helped me haul away the old fence, and Dan helped the entire weekend to build the new fence (and he did a great job - Dan was a craftsman for sure!). I appreciated him helping me, because I could have never done it without him.
I know there is nothing I can say to ease your pain, it just doesn't make sense. But hopefully Dan is in a better place watching over us all....

Dear Jennifer,
My prayers and thoughts are with you and your family. I remeber how you told me what a good dad Dan was to your girls. I also remember the flowers he had sent you at work several times and how proud you were of him serving his (our) country. He will be surely missed.
Take care,

The sad news has shaken the entire Bay Area. Daniel's family will ever remember the day that they built on his courage, dedication, and commitment to begin again to be a special family without his love and leadership. We are grateful for his bravery to protect America and to bring elections to those who have not had that gift and responsibility. We all mourn your loss. God bless you.
