Alfred E Schendel Resident of Oakley, CA July, 1927 - Oct, 2012 Alfred died Sunday morning Oct 7, 2012, at the age of 85. He died peacefully at home surrounded by friends and family. He touched many lives with his outgoing nature, his humor, and joy of turning a phrase. Alfred was born in Trafford, PA, and graduated from Saint Vincent Preparatory School in 1945, were he varsitied in baseball and football. He served our country in the Merchant Marines 1945-1946, US Marine Corp from 1946-1948 and 1961-1968; where he met the love of his life of 43 years in 1962, Dorothy. Over the years he had many jobs such as: printer, truck driver, steam generation forman at Pacific Gas & Electric Company, bus driver, security guard. He enjoyed bicycling with a passion, and knew every inch of road in East Contra Costa County, and the location of every coffee station along the way. Alfred is survived by his sister Mary Louise of Pennsylvania, his daughter and three sons; Annamarie of Escondido, Leo of Oakley, Chris of Concord, Franz of North Carolina, five grandchildren: Mariah and Jacob of Concord and Mikel, Tony, and Alesha of NC and 6 greatgrandchildren. Friends and family are invited to a visitation on Monday 15, from 4-7 p.m. at the Holy Cross Cemetery followed by a vigil service at 7pm. and a funeral service on Tuesday 16th, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church, burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
