Frances Hallekamp Obituary
Frances Brashears Hallekamp Jan. 15, 1925 Oct. 22, 1925 Resident of Port Costa Frances was born in Leola, Arkansas to Grover Cleveland Brashears and Bertie Jane Jones Brashears. She graduated from Ouachita Baptist University and earned a Masters Degree in Public Administration on a Rockefeller Fellowship from the iniversity of Alabama. Futher graduate work in Counseling and Guidance was completed at San Francisco State and UC Berkeley. She was a reporter for the Corpus Christi Caller-Times in Corpus Christi, Texas and a textbook editor for UC Berkeley. Frances taught elementary school and at Del Mar College in Corpus Christi before moving to California. Frances retired after 35 years with the WCCUSD as Head Counselor at Pinole Valley High School. She received the Parent Teacher Honorary Service Award and the Continuing Service Award for Outstanding Contributions and Excellence in Counseling. She was a life member of the PTA, a member of St. Patrick's Church in Port Costa, Delta Kappa Gamma, the Port Costa Conservation Society, the California Retired Teacher's association, and the Arkansas Forestry Association. Frances is survived by Dr. Don Edsel Brashears, Connie Rhea Brashears Douty, Dr. Larry Bruce Brashears, Caroline Jane Taylor Merritt, Janie Lou Brashears Sweeney, and Linda Kay Brashears Cundiff, and her beloved horse. Blue. Rosary: Thursday Oct. 25, 2012, 7:00PM St. Patrick's in Port Costa. Funeral Mass: Friday Oct. 26, 2012 10:30AM St. Patrick Church in Port Costa. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Grace Foundation of Northern California, P.O. Box 4692 El Dorado Hills, Ca. 95762 for little mare, Chelsea.
