Born in Detroit, MI, his family moved to Long Island, NY at an early age. He enlisted into the U.S. Army Air Corp in 1941, during WWII (European Theater) and after transitioning into the newly formed branch of the U.S. Air Force served in Asia during the Korean Conflict and then in Vietnam before retiring in 1969 as a Master Sergeant.
