Kosuke "Ko" Ijichi, 92, passed away on Sunday, November 18, 2012 in Walnut Creek CA.
Born and raised in Santa Rosa, CA, Ko was the descendant of early California winemaking pioneers, Tomoki and Hiro Ijichi (parents) and "Grape King" Kanaye Nagasawa (great uncle). Ko spent his early years on the Fountain Grove vineyard and winery in Santa Rosa. He graduated from Santa Rosa High School in 1938 and attended UC Davis. His college years were interrupted by World War II when he and his family were interned in Rohwer Arkansas.
After the war, he met his wife, Lucy Yamamoto. They were married in 1948 and started their family in Berkeley. The Ijichis spent many happy years in Berkeley and Richmond, raising their family, entertaining family and friends, and enjoying the beauty of the Bay Area and California.
Ko became a widower in 1996, and in 2006 he moved to the Rossmoor community in Walnut Creek. Ko leaves sister, Amy Mori, children, Kenneth (Roxanne), daughters Karen Perkins (Arnold), Mary, and Jean, and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and close friends.
A private burial will be held on Monday, Nov 26, 2012 at Sunset View Cemetery Mortuary. A memorial service and birthday celebration will be held at the Veterans Memorial Bldg., Lafayette on Saturday, December 8th at 3:00. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to J-SEI, 2126 Channing Way, Berkeley, CA 94704 or JCYC, 2012 Pine Street, San Francisco, CA 94115.
