Stanley was born in Akron, Ohio, where he graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1945. He attended Sacred Heart Seminary in Detroit, Michigan before deciding to join the Army. While serving as a Medical NCO in Stuttgart, Germany during World War II, Stanley met his wife, Elisabeth Schuster. Throughout his life, he continued to be an avid sports fan and cheered on his Bay Area teams. He enjoyed traveling with his children, especially trips back to his hometown. His other interests included going to the movies, telling stories and of course, apple pie.
Stanley enjoyed time spent with his children and grandchildren. He was grateful for watching his family continue to grow in size and was blessed with many family events and special occasions to celebrate.
