John S. Rogers Obituary
John S. Rogers
May 24, 1946-Feb.6, 2013
Resident of Danville
John passed away in Danville on February 6th after suffering complications from early-onset Alzheimer's disease. He was 66.
John was born in Chicago but his family soon moved to St. Louis where he spent a wonderful childhood. He graduated from Parkway High in 1964. He then attended the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, where he received a degree in engineering. It was there that he met Barbara and they were married in 1969.
After graduation John worked for several companies in engineering sales positions. He went on to receive an MBA from Northwestern University. After that he started a 30+ year career with the Hay Group, Inc., an international management consulting firm. John worked in the Chicago office for several years before being named a partner. He then managed the Pittsburgh, PA office from 1982-l989. In l990 he came to California as V.P./Regional Manager and at the time of his retirement in 2005 was managing the San Francisco/Walnut Creek office. John especially enjoyed working with and mentoring young consultants.
John was a wonderful cook and his meals were enjoyed by many. He loved his vacations, and his fishing rods went along even if they never touched the water. On weekends he could usually be found working in the yard, hiking the Mt. Diablo trails, or attending his children's many sporting activities.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Betty Rogers. He is survived by his wife, Barbara, and their children Geoff(Cayce) of LaVerne, CA, and Ashley of Danville. He is also survived by his brothers Mark and Paul, both of Connecticut, and by our extended family, the Pytlewskis of Walnut Creek.
The family would like to thank the many wonderful caregivers at Emeritus of Barrington Court who cared for him in his last years of life and the nurses of Vitas Hospice who were there in his final days.
It would be appreciated if any donations in John's memory be made to the , 251 Lafayette Circle, Lafayette, CA 94549.
