Carolyn Ann (Thornhill) Cook Obituary
Carolyn Ann (Thornhill) Cook
Dec. 17, 1963-April 28, 2013
Resident of Brentwood
Carolyn Ann (Thornhill) Cook passed away in her home in Brentwood, California on April 28th. She fought a valiant battle against a very painful cancer for over two years. Carolyn was a beautiful human being who leaves behind a legacy of love for her family, friends and community.
Carolyn lived a fulfilling life with her husband of 27 years, Richard Cook, and three children: Sydney, 24; Tanner, 21; and Brayden, 4. Carolyn and Richard lived in Martinez and Antioch California before moving to Brentwood in 2001. She is preceded in death by her father, Sam Thornhill, of Antioch. Carolyn also leaves behind her mother, Leona Thornhill, and brother, Victor Thornhill (Denise), both of Brentwood, four nieces and three nephews. Also surviving Carolyn are the many loving uncles, aunts, cousins and in-laws in Contra Costa County California, Lincoln County, Missouri, and Las Vegas, Nevada.
Carolyn was born December 17, 1963 in San Francisco. She was adopted as an infant and raised by her loving parents, Sam and Leona. Carolyn graduated from Antioch High School in 1982 and attended UC Irvine and UC Davis after high school. Later, she became a certified dental assistant and worked as a dental office manager for 15 years. In 2003, she retired from the dental profession to fulfill a long-held dream, to teach children to learn to swim. That year, Carolyn opened Brentwood Swim Academy, which served the community until her cancer diagnosis in 2011.
Carolyn loved life! She served on the Heritage High School Grad Night Committee, where she made great friends. Carolyn loved to travel to beach destinations and entertain her family and friends, throwing clam-bake and Hawaiian themed parties on her pool deck. She was a wonderful cook. She loved to organize the yearly spring family vacation - which was usually to a beach. Everyone in the family has a good Carolyn story. That is because she loved them all and was involved in their lives.
Carolyn and her family have received an outpouring of support during her illness. Family, friends and neighbors, please know that Carolyn loved the many things you did for her. The family appreciates the excellent quality of care given by Epic Cancer Center in Antioch and Sutter Hospice.
