Harry Dupin Painton Obituary
Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) Harry Dupin Painton

Harry Dupin Painton passed away peacefully on Saturday morning. He was loved and revered by many and will be sorely missed by friends and family from Coast to Coast.
Harry was born in Baldwin, New York, graduated from South Side High School in Rockville Centre, New York, and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Adelphi University, New York. His 20-year service as a highly decorated United States Army Infantry Officer and Master Aviator included a combat tour in Vietnam and tours in Germany and South Korea. His courageous sense of duty was exemplified after his return from Vietnam when he was made a First Honorary Citizen of the City of Atlanta, Georgia and presented the Key to the City upon sustaining injuries while saving the life of an Atlanta police officer who was overtaken by a street gang. Following his retirement from the military, Harry continued to serve our country as a Civil Service executive for the Army Corps of Engineers, Pentagon, Washington, DC, until he retired in 1999 and relocated to Walnut Creek. In retirement, he enjoyed making new friends, exploring the West Coast, and participating in his grandchildren's activities.
Harry is survived by his devoted and beautiful wife, Patricia; his loving daughters, Patricia M. Painton of Danville and Mary E. Bray (Jonathan) of Walnut Creek; and grandchildren, David Bray, Caroline Bray, and Madeleine Bray. He is also survived by his siblings, Marie Wilkins of Penn Yan, New York; Jeanette Painton of New York City, New York; and Eugene "Sam" Painton of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina. He is preceded in death by his mother, Marie Dupin Painton; his father, Dr. Henry MacDonald Painton; and his sister, Leontine Klem. His kind, generous, and loving spirit will be missed by all who were blessed to have known him.
Friends and family are invited to a visitation on Thursday, June 13, 2013 from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Hull's Walnut Creek Chapel, 1139 Saranap Avenue in Walnut Creek, and a funeral mass with military honors on Friday, June 14, 2013, 10:30 a.m. at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 1650 Ygnacio Valley Road, Walnut Creek, (925) 939-7911
