William Joseph McNutt Jr. Obituary
William Joseph McNutt, Jr.
January 5, 1939 - August 7, 2013
Resident of Danville
He had a lot of fun. If there's anything you should know about him, that is the first thing he'd tell you. Bill made friends easily, loved a good party and gathering of his family and friends, was befriended by loyal cats, and frequently traveled with his wife and family. He also made fantastic ribs and thoroughly enjoyed our local wineries.
Born in Taylorville, IL, Bill was raised in Los Angeles and graduated from Washington High School where he was active in DeMolay and achieved Master Councilor. At UCLA, Bill was an Alpha Tau Omega and graduated as one of the 30 Outstanding Seniors in the Class of 1961 with a degree in Marketing. He immediately joined the Coast Guard which brought him to the Bay Area. In 1962, he began working at The Emporium in San Francisco for six years. It was there that Bill met his future wife, Aileen Bennett. He proposed after their first date. They recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with their family on a special trip and had never been more in love. In 1968, Bill began his long career as an Account Manager for Levi Strauss & Co. in San Francisco, earning him several awards as Sales Representative of the Year before his retirement in 1999.
A 42-year resident of Danville, Bill was very active in the lives of his three children, never missing a soccer game, helping guide both sons to Eagle Scout in Troop 36, and generally being the best dad, husband, and friend ever. Although he lost his fight with cancer, his determination and will to go on, and the hope that he had, were an inspiration to all of us. He will be deeply missed, yet he will always be with us when we're having a lot of fun.
He is survived by his wife, Aileen; son Tripp, wife Kristen, and granddaughters Amanda and Natalie of Danville; son Andy and wife Melinda of Oakland; daughter Meghan of Sacramento; and Mimi, his most recent and snaggle-toothed rescue cat.
In lieu in flowers, donations can be made to the Levi Strauss & Co. Red Tab Foundation, a charity that Bill participated in during his retirement.
