Lifetime Resident of Pinole
Don passed away peacefully on Aug 29th surrounded by his loving family.
After graduating from high school, he joined the Navy where he served for a couple years. He then became employed with Shell Development as a draftsman for 14 years where he met his wife, Ida. He then opened C & C Continental Deli in 1968 in partnership with his friend Frank Cammarata. He worked very hard and had a successful business for 35 years.
He was well known throughout the community through his many affiliations with several organizations. He was a past member of the Pinole Jaycees, Crimestoppers, Pinole Rotary and the Pinole Exchange Club. He was a coach for many years at Tara Hills Baseball. He also was a member of the Pinole Men's Golf Assn. and the F.I.G's. He was an active member of the Pinole/Richmond Lion's, Pinole Youth Commission and Youth Foundation and the Hercules Rotary.
He loved to spend time with his grandkids and loved telling them stories and giving them life lessons. He was very proud of his family and loved to be around everyone. He was an avid golfer until his health issues prevented him from doing so. He was a die hard Raider fan.
He is survived by his loving and supportive wife, Ida. His daughter, Jeanne Castro-Ricketts (Scott) and son, Tony Castro (Jennifer). His grandchildren, Sherie Burleigh, Randy Ricketts, Kyle Fowler, Andrew and Serina Castro. Many nieces, cousins, other extended family and many friends.
Preceded in death by his father Hank, mother Mary, sister Barbara Jean, brother Richard and sister Karen.
Rosary/viewing will be held Saturday, Sept 7th from 4-8 and the funeral Monday Sept 9th at 11 at Holy Angels (St Joseph Cemetery) 2540 Church Lane, San Pablo. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Pinole Youth Foundation 635 Tennent Ave., Pinole CA 94564.
